Lipomas - alternative to surgical removal?

My 9 year old lab has a few lipomas on her tummy/chest. They’ve all been checked by the vet and are just fatty lumps. However, one of them is near her hind leg and is quite large and the vet said we might want to consider removal in case it gets bigger and starts to affect movement. I am reluctant to remove it ‘just in case’ as it’s not bothering her at the moment and I don’t want to put her through a ga and the stress. Also, because it’s a pre-existing condition, my insurance is unlikely to pay out and the op will cost around £1000.

Has anyone had any success with alternative treatments to shrink a fatty lump - acupuncture, supplements etc.

Thanks.

My cocker has some fatty lumps. Vet advised us to leave well alone unless causing issue. She said it can leave a bit of a dip/hole which can then cause other problems.

My dog has got quite a collection of these (he's a lurcher). The advice I've had is to leave them alone, as once you start messing with them other problem tend to emerge. They're quite unsightly, so he wears a thin vest most of the time (it protects them a bit from knocks, too) - but they don't seem to cause him any problems.

I wouldn't have anything done to them unless they are actually causing a problem now.

Thanks both of you. You’ve confirmed my thoughts. Will leave alone for now.

A friend's Lab had a huge one removed from his back but it came back in the same place. I used to see a lurcher with one the size of a tennis ball, pulling her lower eyelid down, but the owner didn't get that removed, which I would have considered.

@muddyford - thanks. I think I’m going to leave alone for now as it’s not causing any problems. I agree about the lurcher though, that sounds like a case for removal.
