Getting the tablets down, ideas ?

Ddog is poorly. He’s got pardale v tablet to have 3 times a day and omeprazole twice a day.
we were managing fine at first, hiding it in his favourite high value treats but he’s wised up. The omeprazole are tiny and I even cut them in half but still he manages to sift them out and eat the rest.
I’ve tried using his puzzle toys, rapidly feeding other treats and then sticking a hidden one in his mouth but no , he’s too clever !
any suggestions greatly appreciated.
very worried and sad about him , awaiting test results from vet today.

One of mine has tablets every day and some can be dissolved in a tiny amount of water and added to wet food and others ground to a powder and mixed in to wet food.

Cheap pate from Aldi/Lidl works for us. One tiny scoop, no pill; one with pill; one more, no pill to make sure it's all swallowed.

one small scoop for other dog acting as first dog's agent

I’ve got 2 dogs 1 is the dimest dog I’ve ever owned he’d literally swallow anything if I offer it, my other is known to be a very bright breed and seemed able to find tables what ever I did. Chicken liver pate was suggested by a friend and resolved it, I gave him a ball without a tablet in it to give him a taste for it and then the second ball has the tablet inside, swallowed in one gulp job done!

Make it into a fast game with no time for thinking or sniffing. Start with real non-tampered with treats and then sneak a medicated treat in there once the game is fast and underway. No time to think or wonder if anything changed... down the hatch it goes :-)

Expensive - Parma ham or similar. Wraps and sticks to itself so much harder to spit out the contents and tastes great.

I’ve always slightly crushed them, put them in some peanut butter or cream cheese inside a bit of ham. Just gets guzzled in a second.

I'm sorry your dog isn't well OP.

I'm pretty sure I posted something similar some years back as my Lab is terrible for finding anything hidden in a treat.

He is on permanent long term meds now. I did see you said about the ulcer, but I find the only sure fire way is holding his head up and placing them towards the back of his tongue. Then I blow very gently on his nose. Yes you will get people ranting never to blow in a dogs face, but for us it works as it makes him swallow.

If I couldn't get the meds in him, he would not be here with us now, so it's a case of just picking a method that is going to get them in. And also for us in a treat each time isn't ideal, as he is on a real strict diet too.

I hope your pup is on the mend soon.

My boy was on gapapentin too, but it really made him terribly drowsy/dopey. As in overly drowsy that he wasn't even getting up to have a pee. Just a bit of a heads up just incase as some dogs are super sensitive to this medication.

I'm not sure expensive comes into it with dogs 🤣 Good scoff is good scoff and teddy bear ham is good scoff to them .Can I be your dog ?Let's be honest bin bouffet is quite the delicacy .
But I know exactly what you mean , trying to find to the combination of what will make the tablets go down is quite the nightmare .

Crush the tablet(s) between two spoons, and then sprinkle the powder into food and mix it in. So whatever your dog may like to eat that's a bit wet, like a bit of yoghurt, dog food chunks in gravy, tinned tuna/mackerel, anything like that.
