How many meals at 8 months?

I have an 8 month old working cocker spaniel. He has been happy having 3 meals a day until recently. Now he is often not interested in breakfast and sometimes also not bothered about lunch. We do use some of his kibble for training on walks. I then give him a good size dinner and he licks the bowl clean.

When do you drop to 2 or 1 meal a day?

We dropped down to two meals at around six months. He's six years old now and gets more frequent meals than he did as a puppy Grin

I never have. Three meals a day for all my dogs (10, 7 and 18 months) of various breeds. They're fed at 5:00, 12:00 and 17:00.

Two meals a day just doesn't work for them - in particular my cocker spaniel who likes to eat little and often.

I wouldn't recommend dropping to one meal a day...two is fine (and around 8 months is usually when this can happen IME). But one doesn't seem like a good idea given dogs dogs can get bloat if they eat too much in one go (which can do real damage).

As above, we have a 1 year old and a 3 year old (labs) and they both still have 3 meals a day

Thank you. I will keep going with offering 3 meals a day

I usually do 2 meals from about 6 months old, but that’s just because it suits me better.

Assuming he’s not neutered yet (because of his age) a lot of intact male dogs are pretty good at managing their own weight, it might be that now he’s not growing so fast he’s just not needing quite as much food.

My working Lab dropped to two meals at six months. He has about a third for breakfast and the rest at suppertime.
