Our little puppy was castrated today. We got him one of those compression coats as he would have hated a cone. We've been super careful all day with making sure he doesn't try and lick etc and constantly taking him out to the toilet but he's just had an accident in the coat and it is now soaked with urine. I can't put it in the wash now as the dryer is currently broken (typical!) so it wouldn't dry in time! What is the best thing to do? Keep him in it as it will dry soon or take it off and risk him licking it? I've got no idea what's best and I'm panicking!

Baby gro or vest, dry suit with a hair dryer?

CissOff · 02/05/2024 21:04

Don’t panic! Take the body suit off and clean the area with water.

Pop a pair of knickers on him and tie it in a top knot over his back to stop it falling loose - we used a hair band to do this.

Could you throw it in a quick wash and dry it with a hairdryer so you don’t have to worry about him overnight?

Thanks so much for the quick advice! I've popped it in the wash on the quickest setting and currently got it out on the radiator to dry. In the few mins he had it off he was already trying to lick the wound so I've had to fashion a pair of DS's boxers (he's only 4 so they are tiny) in to a pair of shorts for him, had to cut him a tail hole which DH found hilarious! I've secured it with a hair tie so hopefully that should be ok until his suit dries.

Those little suits do dry pretty quickly, just be warned my dog still tried to lick but just licked the suit and made it all wet and gross 🙄

You might need to get more than one. Our dog had surgery recently and has had complications with healing, and because of wee splashes, a weeping incision, antibiotic cream etc., she now has four surgical suits and two 'miniskirts' - stretchy snoods that she wears around her tummy during the day.

Speaking from experience, old leggings also work well as a stand by
