Golden retriever resource guards with other dogs only

I don’t know where we’ve gone wrong :(

DDog is an absolute angel at home. Never shown any resource issues what so ever. She will spit food out and stop eating if you ask her to.

but she’s been going to a dog walker for 6 months now and every so often she has a fall out with another dog. It always seems to be in the afternoon so I’m wondering if she’s tired and over stimulated by then :(

apparently she was absolutely fine with said dog all day, playing lovely etc but said dog picked a toy up and ddog bit her :(

I don’t know what to do. How do you fix an issue when she’s the only dog at home? I’m going to contact a behaviourist tonight.

How old is your Golden?

It sounds more like dog day care if she was with the other dog all day? TBH I’d question the environment if this is happening repeatedly. First thing would be to pull her out and only have her on solo walks.

its a dog sitter? Day care? No idea but she has 2/3 dogs. The woman is amazing and dog absolutely adores her.

shes 3 in July

TBH the woman might be lovely, but she clearly has not got a clue if your dog has gone for other dogs several times and she hasn't put in place any measures to stop this sort of issue. This should have happened once, maximum. It shouldn't have happened several times.

The first step for you should be withdrawing your dog before she seriously injures another dog - has the dog sitter told the other dog owners what has happened? Issues like this will typically continue to escalate - that or they stagnate. But worse case scenario is your dog seriously injures another dog and ends up being PTS or you end up forking out for a significant vets bill. I really wouldn't risk leaving your dog with the current person.

Other than that, I think you may need to accept that your dog has wider resource guarding issues and get a behaviourist in. But given the issues aren't happening around you, there's not much that can really be done unless the dog sitter takes it seriously (which it seems like she's not?)

Apologies for the double post before - train wifi!

Is this woman licensed to have a dog in her care all day? She sounds a bit clueless, if I'm honest with you 🫣

Your dog sounds both stressed and overstimulated - I would be taking her out of the arrangement as soon as possible.

I would stop using the dog walker and look for a new 1 to 1 walker.
