What is your puppy eating?

TheBunyip · 22/04/2024 20:52

We’re half way down the kind of food he came with and I’m not loving it. Huge, soft poos

our old dog has butternut but it’s so expensive

i I have reasons for not wanting to go with raw, although we did raw feed for years, it’s not our preference this time

ive looked on allaboutdogfood and am wavering. The very top ones aren’t easily picked up locally which means delivery charges and risk of buying a big quantity and belong left with something he doesn’t like

whats your basic everyday pup eating these days?

We used ava puppy as it was highly rated and good value on all about dog food

mine is nearly five months. In the morning she has a bowl of kibble with two raw eggs and a spoonful of cod liver oil. In the evening she is on the frozen raw food mince pellets. Is there a reason you don’t want to raw feed?

Yes. My daughter is responsible for feeding in the afternoon / evening and she’s autistic and hugely averse to raw food.

which sort of kibble do you use?

will check out Ava. Thanks :)

We have a 6 month old border collie and he's on Millie's Wolfheart. This is what the breeder used and we've carried on with it as it seemed recommended and he's been happy. He does get a small amount of wet food mixed in as well

We are using skinners field and trial. No issues with it. It’s what the breeder recommended

muddyford · 23/04/2024 08:05

Ours came with Royal Canin and had the same issues. He is now on a salmon and rice kibble made by Pero but marketed under the label of our local farm shop. Older dog is on Skinners Field and Trial.

Millies wolfheart is great food. They have a very good customer advice line.

survivingunderarock · 23/04/2024 09:20

Millie’s wolfheart. Really good quality food. I feed the 70:30 range and switch every bag as recommended.

BackToLurk · 23/04/2024 13:09

I swapped to Millie's Wolfheart on the recommendation of our trainer, as we suspected he had some food sensitivities (chicken). Done him the world of good.

BigBundleOfFluff · 23/04/2024 13:47

Another Millie's here with a topper of forthglade. Amazing difference in poo's - I now have the perfect pickup. I also suspect a slight intolerance of chicken.

80-10-10 raw all five dogs eat it

Youdontknowmedoyou · 23/04/2024 14:02

James wellbeloved puppy dry food for the spaniel pups, meat pouches for the poodle.

Moanycowbag · 23/04/2024 15:23

I feed my dogs on Canagan dry, my older girl eats the one for old fat dogs and my puppy is on the small breed one, it's all life stages so he's been on it since he was 10 weeks old and is now just over a year.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 23/04/2024 15:39

Butternut. Poos are far less frequent and more solid than on the Fish4Dogs kibble she came with from the breeder. She's not a puppy any more though.

Had no issues with the kibble but she suddenly refused to touch it [for a lab to refuse food is rare I believe😁] and we were recommended Butternut and haven't looked back.

We feed veggie dog. She loves it and has very good digestion. I already switched my other 2 dogs to veggie dog years ago and they never had any issues.
Were in the EU though, not sure about availability. I think its from Germany, but they deliver to many countries and Ive seen it in store in many places too in the EU.

Ours is on Royal Canin. No issues at all.

coolmum123 · 02/05/2024 09:21

Our doggo is 3 now. Came to us raw fed but we changed to kibble for various reasons. Vet recommended Purina, the smell and the waxy feel of the kibble. 🤢.
Looked at allaboutdogfood.com and went with a brand called essential dog food. High protein grain free. It has during this time expanded it's range and we and doggo are really happy with it. We change up the flavours every bag. Order directly and it gets delivered to the house.

Theoscargoesto · 02/05/2024 09:29

My older dog came on Wagg puppy and we moved her to Acana which is readily available and rated well on allaboutdogfood. Recently moved to Butternut which also suits her. Pup arrives tomorrow and I figure Butternut will be expensive and fiddly so I’ve bought Acana ready to switch again.

SpringLamby · 02/05/2024 09:31

Millies wolfheart. Countryside mix.
And a little bit of naturediet wet mixed in occasionally.
