How much chicken and rice?

I’m looking after my friend’s dog for a few days and because dog had some diarrhoea last week, friend left me prepared chicken and rice for her meals rather than usual
dog food.
I think the dog might be hungry; she is jumping up at my dog cupboard where she knows treats are, barking at me when I’m in the kitchen. I’ve looked after her before and never had this behaviour.

How much chicken and rice would be about right, weight wise, for a cocker poo type size weighing, I’d guess, about 12.5 kg?

TIA

Chicken and rice isn’t very filling or nutrient heavy - so she probably is hungry. It’s only meant to be used for a day or so. TBH if she’s after food, I’d contact your friend and ask if you can try her for one meal on her usual food - being hungry usually means they’re feeling a bit better!

My cocker is about 10.5KG. I weigh out 50g of uncooked rice per meal and she has an entire (large - about 200G) chicken breast per meal. She has three meals a day. She gets a lot of exercise though (2 hours minimum a day). So the cockerpoo you’re looking after probably needs a bit less.

If the rice is already cooked, bin it and cook fresh if you’re going to keep with chicken/rice. It really doesn’t keep and can make them sick!

Thank you for the advice.
She is getting more exercise with me than she does with my friend too.
I’ll try her on her usual food and keep my fingers crossed.

They don't need to be on chicken and rice for that long after having diarrhoea, and as PP said rice doesn't keep for long.

I would try her with her normal food but split into smaller meals - so if she normally has 100g twice a day, give her four lots of 50g spread out through the day.

If she gets diarrhoea again, tinned chappie chicken and rice variety is very good at sorting it out.

Please don't change what she eats or start feeding her a different food without talking to her owner first.

Appreciate your suggestion about contacting her owner.
My friend left me her normal food so I’m happy to use it.

@Kindnesskindnesskindness if she's asked you feed the dog chicken and rice then that's what you should do unless she gives you permission to do otherwise.

My friend’s reason for giving the dog chicken and rice is that she didn’t want her having diarrhoea while she was staying with me. I’m happy that the dog is showing signs of being fully recovered from her episode of diarrhoea and therefore I’ll give her the usual food that my friend also left with me.

My friend has left her dog with me because she trusts me implicitly with her and knows that I will do what I believe to be best for the dog. 😀
