9 week old puppy schedule and sleep

I received some excellent advice and support on a previous thread so I was hoping I could pick some brains further.
I’ve looked at so many schedules online and I’m totally overwhelmed with all the different ideas, routines, etc.
I’m struggling with how long puppy should be awake and when I should crate him for naps? He is fed at 7.30am 1,30 and 7.30pm. How much time awake (training and playtime) before I put him down for a nap?
I’m a bit of a nervous first time dog mum and want to do the best for puppy. I don’t want to overtire him.
TIA

Depends 100% on the puppy, OP!

For what it's worth, my youngest slept about 18 hours a day. Trained for about an hour (across the whole day). Then the rest of the time he was entertaining himself with toys etc. (I don't agree with puppies getting attention 100% of the time they are awake - they need to learn to entertain themselves) or I was doing careful socialisation with him and my other dogs or I was doing wider socialisation (taking him down to my local coffee shop strapped to my chest, introducing him to the hoover etc). The first few weeks are crucial (particularly before vaccines) to show them as much as possible both for socialisation but also for your own sanity as it also helps to tire them out!

I fed him all his food from my hand during training rather than set meal times (but trained at the same time every day). This served two purposes: he associated me with food and rewards, and I got easy training in. I never trained him after he had been fed - that was his 'twat time' (aka zoomies).

If a puppy gets very bitey or mouthy, that's usually a sign they need to nap. But I never had enforced sleep time - mostly because I wanted him to learn to take himself to sleep.

Don't worry about overtiring him! But do worry about over-stimulating him (winding him up, playing to much etc) as when puppies get over stimulated they turn into right little turds.

But as I said, all puppies are different. My routine for my Golden would never have worked for my spaniel(s).

At nine weeks old they need about 18-20 hours of sleep per day. They're growing so fast at that age that they need all the sleep and rest they can get.

We didn't have a set schedule when ours was a puppy as some days he was several times a night and slept in, whereas others he'd sleep more solidly and be up at the crack of dawn Grin

While my pup was toilet training at night I slept in the same room as pup .She went to toilet at just before 11 pm then bed .Of course she woke at least twice during the night for toilet breaks and would wake properly at 6am .Of course we would enforce naps during the day by putting her in the crate .
Once she is properly accustomed to the crate and knows it's for sleeping in (takes 2-3 days if you do it right) .
They just gradually drop waking at night for a pee . Still goes to bed at 11pm , just takes herself off to her crate .
She's only just gone 1 year and still sleeping .
Daytime naps as you get to know pup , a play , a drink ,wee and getting to know family members . Pup will need a sleep and learn crate is for sleeping .Put the pup in there and ignore any protest they are in there to sleep and that's what they will do ignore any protest .
Do say "bed" each time you put them in crate .Oh don't put pup to sleep until they have been for a wee.

Around that age my pup had the following schedule...awake at 6.30am for breakfast, short walk and play, nap around 8 30am to 12.30 pm then up for lunch, training and play. Sleep from around 2pm to 5pm then up for dinner, training and play. Crated again 7.30 to 9pm so we could cook and eat then up to approx 10.30pm when we would do any grooming and generally more chilled activities. He didn't need to toilet in the night at that age but while he was up and around I would take him into the garden every 40 minutes as part of his toilet training. I used a crate to ensure he did switch off and he still will into his crate to sleep at night and sometimes during the day..he loves it but i know cares are a marmite thing with dog owners...
