Puppy's first season

My 7mth old mini schnauzer has had/is having her first season.

She started bleeding exactly 3 weeks ago today (15th Mar) and that lasted what felt like forever but was around 10 days ish. I didn't notice any symptoms before the bleeding but now I think about it, she was off her food a bit before (in fact she refused all meals during the first week and a half, seemed happy enough on treats and apples)

She seems all back to normal now, appetite returned and feels more settled.

I've been walking her away from other dogs and not let her have any time off lead.

What I'm really not sure about is when I can relax and let her off lead. First off I obviously don't want a puppy pregnancy and secondly I don't want dogs trying to copulate with my beautiful tiny puppy!

Am I okay at 3 weeks or so I need to wait longer??

She's my first dog so I don't have a clue!

@Pineapplemonkey it can be hard to tell. I remember when my pup had her first season I had the same dilemma. She no longer had any physical signs (no bleeding, swelling reduced, less heightened behaviour), so at about the three week mark I lead walked her around other dogs for a few days to be confident they weren’t showing her unusual interest before letting her off.
We’re currently midway through her second season and I can’t wait for it to be over! Booked in for a spey so this will be our last.
Good luck 😊

After three weeks, if she's stopped bleeding and the swelling has gone down, it's almost certainly over. Just keep an eye on her as you would anyway, and see how much interest intact males show in her (and she in them!).
