I'm looking for my 5yo lab, she's not had them before so probably something fairly easy to start with

There are so many to choose from though I don't know where to begin

The first puzzle toy we got for our lab was a nina ottoson slide and hide. I wanted something that didn't have removable pieces as she has a thing for chewing plastic.

She picked it up really quickly and it never took more than a couple of minutes to solve but she was always really excited when I got it out and prepped it.

Trixie puzzles are a very good starter option. They are relatively cheap and they give each toy a level rating. Level 1 being the easiest starter puzzles and going up to level 4.

That said, the cheapest enrichment puzzle you can get is an old towel. Rolled and tied with kibble in, or spread out on the floor with kibble scattered over and then twisted into a spiral. Lots of free fun.

Puzzles and enrichment feeders are addictive, be warned! We have a whole 3-drawer unit full of them.

Any Nina ottoson one. All great

I would also say the slide n hide - there are also 2 "levels" you can set the puzzle at on this one. My lurcher loves these puzzles as did my old Lab.

You can make your own.

Wrap treats into a towel and roll it up. Give it to your dog.

To make it harder over time tuck in the ends of the towel

Put treats into an empty box, make it harder shut the box or put numerous boxes inside each other..

Put treats in a muffin tin and put balls on top of the treats.

Put treats into a plastic bottle with the lid off and dog has to shake out treats

Hide treats in long grass for your dog to sniff out

If you have a fluffy bath mat hide treats in that - makes an easy snuffle mat

Fill a box full of dog toy and treats to let the do rummage through the box

Stuff an empty loo roll with treats and fold over the ends.

My labs just ten to throw the nina ottoman slider toys in the air. It gets all the treats out in 5 secs. Not sure if that is intelligent or not Smile
