Hi guys I have a 9 month old cockapoo and he keeps being sick but there is no pattern to it. On Easter Sunday he threw up multiple times and we thought it could have been the pet Easter egg but he still was sick the next day. Ever since then he's been on a rice chicken veg diet and up until today he's just thrown up his breakfast. We haven't been anywhere today and he hasn't eaten anything dodge. Hes acting himself, wee and pooing normally. We are at the vets on Monday anyway but I just am so worried 😟 does anyone know what could be happening? I know dogs are just sick sometimes but every once in a while - he's been sick quite a lot!

Maybe a food intolerance?

Eating his food too quickly?

Youdontknowmedoyou · 05/04/2024 11:13

When he is sick is it whole food coming up or digested food / white stuff / bile?

Today and on Sunday it was near enough the whole meal coming up. But two or three hours later so I don't think it's from eating too quick cos I've experienced that before where he's had a treat too quick and 10mins later it's back up and whole. It's so confusing cos she's been fine since the weekend and now bringing up food again but already on a gentle diet...

Has he got a slow feeder bowl?

Cocolapew · 05/04/2024 11:33

I had my dog at the vet yesterday for vomiting. She was fine in herself. She had a temperature and bloods show raised liver something or other. Vet thinks its a small gallbladder blockage, probably mucus rather than a stone.

Tygertiger · 05/04/2024 11:38

My dog does this periodically- usually retching and bringing up bile. It inevitably means he’s swallowed something which he eventually voms up, a peach stone or similar.

Hes bringing up near enough all of her meal a few hours after eating 😞

Vet nurse here , if your dog has been vomiting since Sunday you should see a vet before Monday .

Hey! Thank you for replying. She has been fine and kept all her food down for the last four days but she has been vomiting today the same she did on Sunday - whole meals a few hrs after eating. Should I ask them to see her today?

If she's bringing up her whole meal, I would be concerned about a blockage even though she's toileting normally.

Is she showing any other signs of pain or tenderness? Lots of stretching with her bum up in the air or pacing, dribbling etcc?

Nope absolutely nothing. She's sick and then back to herself completely! No signs of pain or discomfort. She's trying to eat the food again once it's come back up!!

I do wonder if she's eating too fast, could you try swapping to a slow feeder and see if that helps? Or feeding her smaller portions more frequently so she's less tempted to wolf her meals down?

Balloonhearts · 05/04/2024 12:48

Is she running about like a loony right after eating?

No she jumps back into my bed and goes to sleep after breakfast. 3/4 hrs later and it's back up again

Is her tummy hard or soft after eating? Bloated? Painful when touched?

What type of toys does your dog have? Anything that gets shredded & eaten?
The only 2 times I had similar issues was a liver problem (elderly dog) or blockage from toy bits (young dog).
Please see a vet ASAP.

Mindymomo · 05/04/2024 12:59

Maybe the quantity is just too much, could you try smaller portions of food, more regularly. When my dog has been sick, I do tend to feed plain chicken/fish and rice plus a spoonful of plain tinned pumpkin in each meal, which helps settle a bad tummy.

Vet appointment at 3pm so hopefully we might at least get some anti sickness for her!

Vets basically said they don't know. Back Monday for ultrasound/X-ray as she thinks it's physical. Poor pup
