Keep trying or alternatively order an inflatable doughnut style collar. Amazon sell them, as do some pet shops.

Would she wear a post surgery onesie instead?

Wolfiefan · 02/04/2024 18:52

Can she have a t shirt type top on? Or a comfy cone?

Crumpetdisappointment · 02/04/2024 18:55

the onsie is not suitable for her type of procedure,, that you for the other suggestion. i imagine she will sleep eventually?

She should at some point. We've had several go through cone wearing / collar wearing and realistically the inflatable collar was easier on all of them. Except one who had to have an amputation. She needed two buster collars and an inflatable just to keep her off the wound.
Good luck and all the best for a smooth recovery.

We bought one online, think it was called a Comfy Cone. Same style, but much more comfortable than those horrible plastic things.

stayathomer · 02/04/2024 19:15

We were close to taking it off and then suddenly he just adapted to it (took 2 days of hell though!)

My dog hates the plastic cone, and the inflatable collar didn't work as she could reach her wound.

She likes this instead, it's nice and soft: Blue Dog Elizabethan Collar https://amzn.eu/d/6hGQyp7

She doesn't mind not being able to see to the side, and she can eat and drink with that on. We use it quite a lot if she ever has a hot spot or minor wound and she sleeps all night with it on.

thank you all, i did take it off but she was very close to searching out her wound, so i put it back quickly. i have ordered an inflatable one, see how that goes

On a side note, we used to have a St Bernard dog. He was wearing his 'lampshade of doom' after his castration, and one of the cats used to wait until he laid down, then curl up inside the cone, round the dog's head, fast asleep all nice and cosy 😂.

Hope your girl has a comfortable night @Crumpetdisappointment .

They will sulk but I found tough love the best way, my boy was a terrible chewer and had to wear one after castration and he had to have surgery on both knees at separate times, I only took it off once a day when he ate his dinner to give it a clean and wipe his face down, I used to offer him water in a cup to drink, but he worked out how to drink out of his normal bowl, but the second day his accepted it.

thank you @Moanycowbag
