Has my dog eaten a grape?

I know no one can answer for me...

Today my son left a box of grapes on the floor. I picked them and put them on the kitchen side. Then I started to worry my dog would have eaten one. He eats everything so it is possible...although I have no evidence

This was a couple of hours ago and I'm only just thinking about it. Would I know if he had?

He has eaten his dinner and drunk water since then.

*Most dogs with raisin or grape toxicosis develop vomiting and/or diarrhea within 6–12 hours of ingestion of grapes or raisins. Other signs include lethargy, anorexia, abdominal pain, weakness, dehydration, polydipsia, and tremors (shivering).

Had your son eaten any? Can you see if any are missing… wouldn’t the dog have savaged the entire pack? Mine would. You are meant to call a vet, but I’d be less inclined with zero evidence.

If he’s eaten a grape he will be fine if he’d eaten a box full that might be a different matter.
Maybe make sure he can’t get at any Easter eggs tomorrow if you have any other wise enjoy the Bank Holiday.

Were there still grapes on the vine? Were the grapes that were left still in the box? It would be weird for the dog to gently remove one grapes from the vine whilst they were in the box and not drag the full thing out of the box etc. So unless the grapes seemed messed with iyswim then it's probably fine.

He’ll most likely be fine. As PP have said hardly likely to have taken one off a bunch. Anyway grapes are not like chocolate in that only some dogs are affected by them, lots aren’t affected at all. My father used to share his with his terrier who used to play rolling them across the floor before pouncing on them & eating them, he was also partial to a hot cross bun.

How is DDog this morning @Morello339?

Morello339 · 31/03/2024 08:39

Morning. I kept an eye on him through the night and he was completely fine. Obviously I'm a bit too cautious 😆.

Thank you for all your advice!

If he's anything like my dog he would have eaten all the Grapes, the vines and possibly the plastic tub 🤣 I wouldn't see him biting one off and leaving the rest

Glad to hear your dog is ok @Morello339

But just to say this:
"If he’s eaten a grape he will be fine if he’d eaten a box full that might be a different matter."
is not true. One grape can be fatal to some dogs.
Usually not but it can be the case.
I don't have grapes in the house. Not terribly bothered about them in any case but it's just not worth the stress (for me).

So glad he's ok @Morello339

We're the same with Chocolate Raisins @redboxer321. They are DH's favourite treat too.

Beware of cherries, there’s arsenic in the stones.
