Tears creating raw sore patch

Very recently dog (boxer 4 yo) had tears that are causing the skin underneath the eye to become very red and sore, I'd describe them as red raw.

This has happened in a very short time maybe 24 hours.

The eyes seem fine and clear. The is no gummy eye or sleep build up, just what seems like regular tears.

Googled it but no luck?

It just under one eye.

Could be any number of things causing the eye to weep.

Given that it's just one eye my first instinct would be that they've maybe scratched/ knocked it and caused a minor injury that will heal up relatively quickly. In this instance I'd probably flush the eye and wipe the sore area with some cooled boiled water (or ideally some leucillin if you have any) a few times a day, making sure to pat dry the red patch as much as possible after.

If it hasn't cleared up or at least improved after a day or so of doing that then it would probably be worth a vet check to rule out a more severe injury or ulcer.

Worth noting that dogs can suffer with hayfever symptoms too and as we're heading into hayfever season that could also be a possible cause, especially if your boxer is white as white dogs are unfortunately prone to allergies. You can give them an antihistamine - something like loratadine or Piriton (avoid piriteze though) you can ask your vet about correct dosage if unsure.

You could dry it and use sudocreme on it which is fine to use on animals.

I would get any eye issue checked at the vets as soon as possible.

The eye itself appears fine

I throughly cleansed it and put in some Isaderm cream I had. And it cleared overnight. And repeated this morning.

I further Google suggests wet eczema or a hot spot

I'm concerned about how the tears cause it. Why so many tears and why cause this?

anyway thanks for the input l.

I know the eye itself is fine but I would still want to get things checked by a vet as soon as possible.

It doesn't take long for an irritated eye area to become an infected eye because the dog has scratched it or knocked it in something trying to scratch it.

Thanks @fieldsofbutterflies

I think you are right and I need to get a vet as it doesn't make sense that he has so many tears and that the tears are so caustic - not the right word but sure you catch my drift-

You need to keep the area dry. Lots of dogs, especially some small breeds have tear stains from weepy eyes. Wise to get it checked just incase there’s an infection there but could just be the weepy eyes. You can buy special products to help. Two of mine are a toy breed prone to tear stains from weepy eyes, I use the Eye Envy products but if you just need to keep the area dry corn starch is as good as anything applied with a small soft makeup brush. Under the eye, be careful not to get it in the eye. It’s what lots of exhibitors of white dogs use, perfectly safe.

Sounds similar to my dog. She has blocked tear ducts so the tears spill over down the face. She's due to have her ducts flushed soon.
