Forgot to medicate my dog

I have a chart on the wall for her treatments and in my phone. Neither has been ticked. She was due on the 16/3 for her worming tablet. I feel like she's had it recently but I'm not sure it is one week recent. Is it better to wait until the next one so don't overdose or give her one today as two is better than none? TIA.

If you think you’ve given her it I wouldn’t give her another one. It’s safer to miss some medication than to take twice as much.

Thank you@Bluefell that is what I needed to know. I'll get a better system going. I do everything and have been exhausted and under a lot or strain and this has been a consequence. Of course, she might have had it and be ok but I'll never know.

Are there symptoms I need to look out for in case she didn't have it please?

Apparently furry cows ears are a natural dewormer (according to my dog trainer). You could always get her some of them until the next tablet is due. She gives her dogs one a week.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Years ago (pre internet when we had no clue what we were doing) we didn't give our dog worming treatments monthly, only when she had a vet check up. She never got worms. Just carry on with the next one when it's due.

It’ll be absolutely fine, just forget this time and give the next dose. Nothing will happen.

redboxer321 · 23/03/2024 10:08

My dog gets natural wormer and hairy treats (rabbits' ears and the like) and never has worms. Dogs are hugely over medicated these days imo.
So to answer your question, I'd try something like that instead.

Mindymomo · 23/03/2024 10:12

I personally don’t give every month, my dog is nearly 6 years old, has only ever had one tick, no fleas or worms. I tend to give treatment every 6 weeks or so, he’s not a dog that eats everything on walks. I would rather under dose than over dose medication.

Bluefell · 23/03/2024 12:25

Watch out for worms in her poo. But it’ll be fine. If she does get worms the next dose will kill them.

Thanks everyone. I'm normally on top of all the animals meds really well but have so much stress it was just forgotten.

@Bluefell except your post when I first read it I thought you meant it would kill my dog😲!
