Dogs In Strollers

Unfortunately our dog has ruptured its cruciate ligament and will need an operation. We have a holiday cottage booked on Exmoor which would be about three weeks post-op. It was going to be very much a walking holiday although obviously we will now seriously curtail many of our plans to accommodate our dog. We have been before and dog loves it there. We will be ultra careful. We were thinking of purchasing a dog stroller so that we can all go out and about together. This is an area that I have zero knowledge and hoped some lovely dog owning Mumsnetters may be able to help fill in the blanks and offer advice. Some look like pram buggies and some like small caravans. It would have to be as off-road as possible. Dog is medium sized mixed breed (mongrel). Any help regarding best makes and suitable types of stroller, plus tips on getting dogs used to them, would really be appreciated. Thank you. 🙏

I have one. I bought it many years ago when one of my little Yorkies got troubled with arthritis when she was old. We have a motorhome so the dogs always come with us on holiday or any travelling & it meant she could still be out & about with us when away. The one I have is like a small push chair that you can enclose similarly when it’s raining. She loved it with a blanket to snuggle into. You often see people using them if they’re on holiday especially. But I don’t know of any that would be suitable for rough ground. For that, or for round towns I had one of the sling dog carriers as she was only small & not heavy.

Look at the Innopet sporty and if you have Facebook there's a great group called Duggies in Buggies. Really helpful. We use one for our 16 year old jack russel cross for longer off road walks. I think some are more comfortable than others so worth doing some research. Good luck.

We have a Doggyride Novel.
Fantastic piece of kit, can be used as a bicycle trailer or with the addition of a stroller kit (third wheel, handlebar etc) it is ideal for pushing your Ddog around.
Not the cheapest but very sturdy and will handle walking on unsurfaced paths/tracks.
