Are more and more people forgoing expensive vet flea treatment because of the cost of living?

We've had fleas for the first time, and very treatment is £40.

Same treatment on viovet (they prescribe vet medication online) is £12

Both mine now wear Seresto collars. £35 for 8 months. Spot on stopped working for us. Fleas (and the worms that go with them) are a real welfare concern. If you e had an infestation you’d not stop treatment.

You can't really compare. One involves a vet checking your cat over and weighing it as they don't want to overdose and poison your cat.

The other doesn't care about your cat, just your money.

If you can’t afford flea treatment then you shouldn’t have a pet TBH. It’s a basic of animal care.

Sure I’ll get lambasted for it, but £40 is nothing in pet care. Most insurances policies are twice that a month.

Realistically, if you can’t afford £40 for flea treatment or flea collars or wormer than how the hell will you pay when something serious happens to your pet?

I don't flea treat mine and we've never had any issues. I would treat an infestation but we've never had found a single flea in over 8 years of pet ownership.

We have three cats as well, and my dog comes to work with me as a dog walker everyday too.

My dog wears a Seresto collar, which at £35 is expensive but he has never had fleas He has sensitive skin( Westie) and I look at it as saving on potential vet bills

I don't treat for fleas unless I find one on my dogs.
All it does is make the buggers resistant to treatment IF you are unlucky enough to get an infestation.

(I had fleas twice- and best treatment is like you do head lice - bath, shampoo & conditioner, a good brush and then the vet's flea treatment. Rinse and repeat as required. -My dogs have a lovely long coat!)

I buy flea treatment it's about £40 a year. I wouldn't buy from the vet.

I had a dog in the nineties who never got fleed he got fleas once in 12 years. I do question if it's worth it.

It’s €35 for 6 months flea and tick treatment. So just over €5 a month. We don’t tend to treat Nov- March so 9months x€5 is €45 ish a year. I think that’s pretty good value tbh.
