Hi Op,
Have you looked at IKEA children's soft toys? If your lab likes cuddly toys I'd really recommend them. We have a Sheltie - much smaller, I know - but he loves them and they are very well made so withstand being thrown around. They're much better than anything we've found in a pet shop.
Also Kong toys are great and also very tough.
Hope that helps.

Kong toys are stronger than most that you find in pets at home

Riverlee · 02/03/2024 18:39

Basically, go to a pet shop and buy one of each Kong rubber toy. They’re the only ones my lab doesn’t destroy!

Actually, saying that, he’s been happily playing with a Tonka dumbbell (from Pets at home) today.

Cuddly toys, even ‘tough ones’ get destroyed.

Off to Crufts next week, it’ll be interesting to see what they have.

Another vote for kong

NewMeNewUs · 03/03/2024 06:27

Thanks all!
I have ordered a few kong toys and went to the charity shop for some soft toys

Be careful with soft toys especially if your lab is a chewer. Remove any potentially harmful bits like sewn on eyes etc that they might swallow.

Labs do so love a soft toy but unfortunately one of mine destroys them. She will have limbs chewed off, stuffing and any squeaker removed in minutes. Which sadly means my other labs miss out as there's no point in having them in the house 🤷‍♀️

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 03/03/2024 07:37

I hate to be the boring one but please be really careful giving soft toys to dogs. Children's toys aren't designed to be ripped up by dogs and they won't necessarily be safe if the dog accidentally swallows an eye or something inside.

If they swallow the fabric it can also lead to a blockage which can unfortunately require abdominal surgery and could potentially even kill them.

I've known more than a few dogs in my time get rushed in for emergency surgery because they've swallowed a bit of toy 😬

Willmafrockfit · 03/03/2024 07:38

you can buy dog toys at any pet shop, even in tesco, quite reasonably, i wouldnt buy a soft toy from a charity shop, the eyes will come out as will the stuffing

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 03/03/2024 07:43

The pet shop "dog soft toys" do the same though unfortunately - we bought a few for my beagle when he was younger and he destroyed every single one within ten minutes. The only difference is they cost a fortune in comparison Grin

Hmmmbetterchangethis · 03/03/2024 07:48

Knotted towel, strips of fabric from old sheets/t-shirts plaited together to make a rope, cardboard boxes he can rip up, lettuce he can roll and shred……. I rarely buy toys for dogs.

Scaffoldingisugly · 03/03/2024 07:52

Nerf do ddog toys. Even husky proof!!

Varua · 03/03/2024 07:56

They don't come cheap, but the only range that my dog can't destroy is Fluff & Tuff. They really are worth the money - he never bores of them, and he has never managed to chew or tear any of them despite years of "killing" them.

ThePure · 03/03/2024 08:54

We do buy soft toys for my boy but only cheap ones as he will destroy them all very quickly. He seems to get a lot of pleasure out of doing it.

The only exception is

https://www.tug-e-nuff.co.uk/?utmcampaign=BranddmisspellingExacttUK&utmsource=Google&utmmmedium=CPC)&gadsource=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA5rGuBhCnARIsAN11vgRXWkyaPe6GgYNy-yXvbn0xagi33XtPHBmOgeom9o8SlgMUdBeGf3AaAj0ZEALwwwcB

We have a few of these and he is nuts for chasing and pouncing on the fluffy bits. He exhausts himself after a few minutes of that and he has never succeeded in destroying them. I take one out on walks for distraction/ recall as he has no interest in balls.

Dearg · 03/03/2024 08:58

My labs love a gravy bone within a box within a box, to rip open and find. Bit messy. They like Nina Otteson toy games, snuffle mats, and Kong wobblers.
Best toy I ever got my lab boy was a little ‘sister’. A toy that fights back!

Second this - we have a basket full of of F&T toys that have withstood some serious ragging over the years. Admittedly some have undergone emergency surgery in the kitchen A&E but I feel my battlefield stitching technique just gives them 'character'.
