My dogs belly!

I'm at my wits end.

My dogs have always been itchy dogs.

I cut out so much and now they only have millies wolfheart countryside mix and salmon treats. I don't give them anything else. Oh with a pork liver powdered topper.

I thought I'd cracked it but my dogs been licky lately and look at her belly

Is this allergies? She is due a bath but she looks so sore :(

My cockers belly looks a bit like that - she's a stress licker. I was constantly told it was allergies by vets, and after years of changing her food around I realised it was stress. She licks her tummy and the tops of her back legs on the inside. Started doing it after she was spayed.

Ultimately, there's no cure for it but as long as she's not actually in pain, I just leave her be. Give her a warm water tummy clean every week just to stop it getting nasty and try to avoid her stressors.

I'd recommend you do the same tbh - unless you are 100% sure it is allergies.

It does look like allergies of some kind of yeast infection. Have you ever tried them on a hypoallergenic diet to see if that makes any difference?

EdithStourton · 17/02/2024 13:30

Have you tried dosing with Piriton? I had an itchy dog (terrier) and half a Piriton a day did the trick. Check with your vet first obviously but that might help.

ChanginRooms · 17/02/2024 16:03

Yes she licks all the time. Her feet are always wet.

I don't know that it's allergies. I just assumed.

What would a hypoallergenic diet be? She's EXTREMELY fussy with food and she's actually eating millies regularly so I'm worried about swapping again.

I have no tried piriton.

Should I do the baths and piriton before I make an appointment with the vet?

Have a look at Holly Barkers sport dog page on FB. She’s a canine nutritionist and has loads of ideas and advice about itchy dogs. The search function is pretty good and it’s not one of those hardcore feeding pages - quite the opposite. She talks a lot about salmon and chicken being triggers for some dogs.

My dog was like this, we changed his diet to raw and cut out poultry and have had no problem since.

Oh no. So it could be all the salmon treats!

I've raw fed before.

I can't do it. I just can't. I really tried.

It's so much better with just some sudocrem!

Glad the sudocrem is helping. We found when our Labrador got any rashes from her harness or dry pads on her paws some coconut oil from a jar would help and was really quick to work
