Hi all
Hope you and your families are well.
My sister has broken her knee.
She has to come across London with two labs - struggling to find a good, safe (not crazy expensive) cab service that will bring her and two dogs.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Can you recommend - one end of London to the other.

Thanks - we are v. desperate!

surely someone can meet her and can go on the tube with her and the dog! poor woman with a broken knee, two dogs and presumably luggage!!

theeyeshaveit82 · 12/02/2024 16:13

if no joy finding a cab

heidiwine · 12/02/2024 16:14

uber has a pet friendly option it is more expensive than the usual Uber but I have used it a few times and never had a problem.

I just had an op myself. Our mother is also in an elderly home recently.
Having a bit of a fam nightmare.
But thanks for the advice. Never considered it.

You could get a quote from Addison Lee, they are dog friendly? I tend to catch black cabs with my big dog but never as far as all the way across london.

Athensorbust · 12/02/2024 17:52

Bring 1 dogs back in cab and leave other-get a cab back and repeat?

Or just call a local cab firm and speak to them. If the price is right they will do it

In its own home for a short while?
Why ever not?

Divebar2021 · 12/02/2024 18:00

Ok. This is a very left field idea so feel free to ignore…. The Rover app has dog walkers and dog sitters. All sorts of people who look after dogs ( some part time some full time). Could you search for a London based one and ask them to meet you and escort you in a black cab. They will obviously charge you a bespoke fee plus the taxi fee.

thelondog.com/how-to-find-dog-friendly-taxi-london-2/

This article reminded me there is an App Gett for black cabs- I use that instead of Uber with my dog.

HappiestSleeping · 12/02/2024 18:02

@Erta When do you need this, and where to and from please?

TheBraves · 12/02/2024 18:02

Presumably someone is walking the dogs for her at the moment? A dog walker? Could she not pay them to help out? Or transport one dog at a time? Hire a man and van if it comes to it?

the woman has a broken knee.

getting across london in a cab x2 on her own…. a) she could prob my book a weekend away for the cost 😂 b) she has a broken knee… i imagine sitting down and standing up and even walking one dog is bloomin painful

theeyeshaveit82 · 12/02/2024 18:07

i got the impression the sister is getting the train to london and then wondering how to get across london

ie doesn’t live in london

The OP wants a cab option- so the knee must be ok for that.
The OP says that the cab will only take 1 dog otherwise they would be using it
So if they cant find a cab service that will take 2 dogs then transporting each dog alone seems to be a viable option?

We tried them - they said no for two dogs.

We tried local cab firms - they said no for two dogs (even though they v friendly)
I think it may be an insurance thing?
Some were worried about the dog hair... but no one seems keen.

Thanks her dog walker is crazy busy. And twice a day for the past two weeks has already cost my sister a lot - I doubt she would even take the full day off from her other dogs - although v.nice lady.

We just need a reliable, safe taxi service that will take two dogs and a woman with no fuss. Seems impossible.

Oh and we tried a man and a van - first place we went to.
Insurance issue for two dogs apparently.
Thanks

Thanks. If we knew and trusted the taxi service/driver a possibility.
But leaving the dog alone with a driver we have not met...
The neighbour could deal the with keys and locking up.... but no. Not willing to do this.
But thanks.

Thank you all.
This has proven to be nearly impossible.
Whoever said it will cost the same as a mini break - you are so right!

We are having to wait for next week to have a fam member driver over from Ireland (for a wedding) and he will do all this for us.

Thanks again. Be safe.

I'd post on the local Facebook or next door page and see if anyone would do it as a favour. FWIW if I saw it posted I'd do it for someone.

commonground · 12/02/2024 23:13

Can't she just use a pet taxi service? There are quite a few in London. Pet Cars is one example.
