My Border Terrier is 12, had her since a puppy. I’m leader of the pack having done the majority of feeding, walking, playing and vet visits since she was young. In past year she has become incredibly whiny. I’m the focus of this. Whenever I get up or come in to the house. It’s pretty much incessant and it’s driving me insane… I have anxiety already. I’ve tried more attention, less attention, ignoring etc but nothing seems to work. Tried contacting a couple of local ‘dog whisperer’ but they didn’t get back to me 😆. Any ideas anyone?

Vet? She might be in pain

Vet. It's a sign of dementia. There is help with that

Yes, this is what is happening with our 12 year old.

Keep reassuring her with lots of love and attention. Dementia in dogs must be very scary for them as you can't explain to them what is happening.

Has anything changed that you suspect boredom, anxiety or they want more attention that you are looking to a behaviour issue rather than pain?

With the benefit of hindsight, I'd go to the vet again and keep going back until they get it under control. I have never experienced/heard of this with dog dementia before but it could be something like that or pain which you dog is telling you he needs help with.

Ours started whining, vet said on more than one occasion he was fine, bloods were fine, scan was fine, and it wasn't until the symptoms got much worse, and it was too late to treat, that we found out why he had been whining before.

Not thinking it’s pain tbh, she’s active and I’ve kept an eye on movement…. Thought boredom but she gets lots of attention and 2 walks a day… might be dementia… will go to the vet and discuss. Thanks for your responses, it’s good to hear your thoughts.

It will be pain or dementia. She needs to see the vet.
