Goldie owners - dry bags/robes etc

ugh the mud. Am contemplating one of those dry robes or dry bags for our 19month old GR but they're quite an investment so wanted to know from other goldie (or big dog owners) if you have them and if you recommend them and if so how you trained your dog to use them?

The bag seems amazing but slightly concerned our boy would get tangled trying to move around, and he runs hot so will it be too hot for him? Robes in that case prob better but won't get his undercarriage completely

Have tried a myriad of towells etc etc so thanks if you dont use these items and have other thoughts, but specifically looking for reviews on robes and bags

We have robes for our two labs. Put them on, leave for an hour or two, take them off. They work well. We never did any specific training, they were both quite accepting of having them on. We have a couple of different brands, both with big collars and a big strap so almost all their underside is covered. I don't think my dogs would tolerate a bag.

We also put the robes on, if going into a cafe or pub after a walk and they're wet.

Our beagle has a dry robe. We paid £15 for one off Amazon and it's been really good so far. I also use it on other dogs at work and it works on other coat types too.

Hi! I have a dirtbag for the car. She looks glum in it but she lies down and sleeps anyway. Even just 15 mins in that gets the worst of it off.
For the house I have towels and a dressing gown, just cheapies off Amazon. And shut off rooms I don't want to get wet.
Amazingly she willingly goes into the downstairs shower if she's bogging.
What i really want is something that washes their legs. Fluffpup has got quite long flashing on her legs which thankfully don't get tangled but does seem to soak up mud. I might bring her to the groomers to tidy up her flashes and tail - again her tail hair is very long.

Save yourself the hassle and get a blaster drier.

I can have an 80kg filthy dog spotless and dry in 10mins. No towels or faffing about putting them in bags 😄

Is this for them to wear in the house? Fellow golden owner here and the mud from the garden is relentless at the moment.

Which one do you have please?

Citygirlrurallife · 10/02/2024 13:53

@Dogdilemma2000 yes - I think he’ll overheat on walks in a equafleece or similar

Dribags only work if the dog won't need to walk in them. We had one when our goldie was a pup but she's too heavy to carry easily now.

We use an old small washing up bowl of water and a flannel to wash her paws and feathers, dry them on her towel, wipe over any other muddy bits with the damp flannel and pop her into her (cheapie) dressing gown. We also have a hose attachment on the kitchen tap, so can hose/shampoo her outside in warm water if she's been in anything stinky.

Washing her paws also means that any salt is cleaned off them in Winter and lets us check them over for any minor wounds, thorns etc.

My favourite one is gravitas. I think it was around £100 and is years old!

Honestly it’s the most underrated piece of kit for anyone with a double coated dog.

I put it by the back door before a walk. When we get back I either quickly hose legs and then dry or just dry, depending on how scruffy they are. It blows off all of the mud, sticks etc and leaves them spotless and dry so they come in clean. I used to spend hours washing towels and bags etc before someone told me to stop wasting time 😄

I also use it weekly to blow out undercoat which saves so many hours of brushing!

My Lab and springer spaniel up both have Ruff and Tumble robes. Lab's was new as he is young, springer's came from eBay, roughly half price.

These are fabulous- just wring out and pop back in container. Can’t recommend them highly enough (2x collies)
