Had a rough puppy week

We have a 7 month old standard poodle puppy.

Going for a walk on Monday, she was on the lead and was attacked by a husky (it had a muzzle harness on but was either off the lead or it pulled the lead out of its owners hand when it launched itself on to my dog. The woman walking it had no control over it and she had a baby in a pram and a toddler. In the chaos the pram got flipped over, baby's face was a bloody mess. It really shook me up.

Today I was exercising her in a secure field which is a dog exercise area. She was off the lead. We are getting there with recall but if another dog is around she doesn't yet listen to me.

She saw a other dog outside the field and managed to get under the fence. She was tyring to play with the dog. I was mortified because she had got out of the field. The owner was horrible to me, incredibly rude, literally blanked me, said 'doesn't it even sit'? She want being aggressive she was just tyring to play. I know that doesn't make it OK because I really struggled to get her back on the lead but I hadn't let her off on that area.

Just feel a bit shitty.

Aw don’t worry, we all have days like that when they’re little. You’ve had a couple of bad days in one week, but she’ll get there.

The husky owner sounds like she’s got bigger problems, be glad you’re not her.

And some people are just horrible, take no notice of the woman who was miserable, you were just unlucky. If it had been somebody else, including me, they would have laughed and made a fuss of her.

You’re obviously working really hard on the training and it will pay off in the end. In the meantime, just look at how cute she is 😍

Don't beat yourself up - neither of those scenarios were your fault Flowers

My beagle was an absolute nightmare at that age, honestly. He regularly had me in tears and I remember coming home to DH more than once saying "you can walk the bloody dog in the future" Blush

He'll be six next week and he's like a completely different dog. One day, the good days will massively outweigh the bad and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about!

We took our young cocker to the beach and, just as hubby was advising a couple on whistle training, she adopted herself out to a lovely man and his friend and wouldn't take a hide of notice of her own whistle.

She then decided it would be a good idea to sit herself in front of a young child who was peeling a banana. Didn't jump or make a sound, just sat there watching. Do you think she would move? No chance.

It happens, puppies and dogs are living creatures not robots and even the best trained can develop serious cloth ears at times.

Don't beat yourself up, you've don't nothing wrong. Give your pup a cuddle, they're not young for long.

If you've hired a secure field, and the pup escaped, then I'd be onto the field owner as the point of a secure field is it's secure!
That aside, people are shitty (it's why we've got dogs!)
As for the grumpy lady, maybe she was having a bad day (and I can't imagine her dog was perfect out of the box)
Don't sweat the small stuff
Enjoy your dog
