Hi,

I have a 10 month puppy and looking for a new harness cause the ones he has causes so much matting 😩We currently use full bodied harnesses but I wonder if a thinner strapped harness might be better... I'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Now off to the groomer we go 😜

We like the Perfect Fit one. Had ours for a couple of years and it sometimes goes through the washing machine and dried in no time.

I use an Indi dog Houdini , they are made to measure . We’ve had ours for years and they wash really well

Mine have Heele ones off Amazon. Lab in large, springer in medium. Very adjustable and wash well.

I had the same issue with my
dog matting. I bought a perfect fit harness and it really is great.

Another vote for Perfect Fit. It'll last forever as you can replace the individual parts as the dog grows.

Oh yes forgot that we had to replace a part when DDog gnawed through it. In her defence she was very nervous when we first got her and a little bit stupid. The anxiety has got so much better. Unfortunately she hasn't recovered from being thick Grin

Look for one that doesn't go across their shoulders and restrict movement. We have a rukka harness which is great and has a little handle on the back which was useful when she was a bouncy puppy. and we wanted to grab her and put her back on the lead. Ruffwear are also supposed to be very good.

Just to add, if you can go into a shop and try on a few. It reminded me a bit of a bra fitting! 😂

Which ever you choose, make sure it is a Y / H harness and not a Norwegian shape. That is bad for a dog's movement. Please see the rather startling video here https://www.dfordog.co.uk/blog/why-h-shaped-dog-harness.html

Another vote for Perfect Fit, alternatively Ruffwear.

Another vote for perfect fit. They were great with recommendation for the size we needed as puppy is very slim. Love that you can replace sections as they grow. She does have some matting under legs but think that’s from her equafleece. She is a poodle mix so doesn’t fit conventional sizes we really struggled in pets at home to find one that fit that she couldn’t wriggle out of.

If he's a small breed I recommend urban pup. They fit really well, look comfortable, are easy to get on and off and they do some really cute ones. My dog is 10kg and wears XL. I think the quality of them has gone downhill a bit in recent years but they are still good.
