Insuring a rescue dog with injuries

I rescued the most beautiful, amazingly wonderful and trusting rescue dog who had 3 broken legs from abuse in her last 'home', resulting in an amputation and surgery to plate the other 2 legs.
She has physio and hydro and is doing so so well.

I've had her for nearly a year now ❤️. I didn't bother getting her insured as I didn't think anyone would insure her, but a friend told me that insurers would likely insure her for everything but her existing injuries? For example, if she ate a bar of chocolate or a punnet of grapes and needed treatment!

Is this correct? If it is, I would like to insure her for these type of things but understand they'd not pay out for anything to do with her legs

Definitely get her insured - your friend is right. Her legs (and any associated issues) won't be covered but you will be covered for everything else - digestive issues, cancer, eye injuries, ear infections etc.

Just make sure you declare all her existing problems when you take out the policy and you should be good!

Yes. We've just insured our puppy. He has a heart murmur and the underwriter just asked for some more details, then they insure everything but pre-existing conditions. These are outlined in the full policy

Oh wow, well done OP! Please, please can we see a photo? 🤞

Yes, you will be able to insure for everything except pre existing conditions

Here she is. No laughing at her ears 🤣🤣

Thanks so much everyone. I will call round. I've tried to get some quotes online but they all say to call when I say there is pre existing things.
I will let you know!
