Sorry, this is a sad one.
My old whippet 14+3 is on max meds for joint pain and has cognitive dysfunction. To stop him barking all night, we’ve been carrying him upstairs to sleep with me in the spare bed. He is no longer able to find the back door when he needs a wee, but I recognise the signs and can guide him out. His back legs give way if he stands still. We took The dreadful decision and have booked our lovely vet to come to the house tomorrow.
Today, he seemed to have a new lease of life, wolfing his food down and practically trotting along on our little walk.
I feel sick with the responsibility of choosing his end. Do we stick with our decision and see him off whilst he seems happy, or grasp for a little more time and put ourselves through this process again.
Thank you for reading.

I am so sorry for your loss 🥀
He lived his best life, he had a lovely last day and kept his dignity. When they’re elderly, losing mind and body it’s better a day too soon, than a day too late….. 🌈

Honestly you just have to get on with it, as painful as it is. Even if he perks up, it won't last and you'll be constantly second guessing yourself and wondering if you have let him suffer too long.

We were in a similar position with our dog but the vet said to me "she isn't going to get any better" despite having a waggy tail on one particular day. It's tough 💐

That'll teach me not to read the full thread. Sorry OP xx
