Dog wart : advice please

So our Shihtzu-Bichon cross is nearly 10 years old. Don’t want to jinx it bless her but in every way she’s like a puppy (gait, energy, appetite, movement).

Anyway, since she was 6/7 she’s had a wart (cauliflower-like, pink) where her hind leg joins her torso. Various vets have seen it as advice has ranged from “bathe in saline water” to “put under GA and remove if you wish”.

It doesn’t do much but on occasion she will bother it/lick it. Then months go by nothing and then again.

I’ll be honest - after 4 years of living with said wart, I am hesitant to put a nearly 10 year old dog under GA. But it does look like she likes bothering it from time to time.

What should we do? Is there any wart removing cream for dogs we should try? There’s one on Amazon or a thuja cream or is it all just snake oil?

She is perfect weight by the way (7 kilos), and remarkably feisty, eats Grainfree dry food (and whatever kids will feed her) and eats 1 or 2 sprats a day as a treat. No other issues.

I sway between yes do GA and get rid and no ignore and try a cream…

My oldest dog (10) had one in the middle of her forehead about a year ago. We had it removed without a second thought. But that was mostly for cosmetic reasons because going to pat your dog and forgetting about the massive wart on it's head and grabbing a handful of it is just grim!

If she's had it for four years and it doesn't bother you, then just leave it! Dogs get warts all the time and (sadly) it gets even more common as they get older...she'll like get a few more in the coming years

I wouldn't buy cream randomly though. Get what the vet recommends (sure they will have a cream in mind)

I wouldn't try a random cream off Amazon. Many will be toxic if she licks the wart after you have treated it. I would risk a GA if it's starting to bother her more. She sounds in pretty good shape so I would think she's low risk, though I am not a vet.

Some warts can be contagious, by the way. Like verrucas.

The weird thing is that her vet is all like either leave it or here’s a £827 quote for her insurance company for removal under GA.

I did ask if cryotherapy/freezing or even local anaesthetic is an option but it sounds like it can only be GA and for £827. Not sure we want that….
