Destined to listen to Taylor Swift for all eternity

Our dog is a Velcro pup.
He's a 12 month old Weimaraner.
Since he was a baby DD2 has played him Taylor Swift music (if you can call it that!!).
She was home for 4 weeks over Christmas and has just gone back.
Since she has left he's been a little s**t.
He won't settle, pacing the house for her.
The only thing that calms him is her music.
While I'm grateful for a respite to the barking and constantly looking for mischief, my head is bounding from the music.
Also makes me miss DD2 that little bit more 😞
He's the kind of dog who is only truly complete when the four of us are home.
Which sadly isn't too often.
I have to make regular trips overseas to look after my mum. DD1 works irregular shifts.
So it's Taylor or a manic dog!!
Not asking for solutions particularly, but does your dog have favourite artists/songs??

Just to add she's at uni so in all likelihood won't be home til Easter.
A long time to listen to an artist I really don't like!!

If it’s any consolation I have toddler twins who will only listen to Abba Gold, and now know how to work the smart speaker. I’d be thankful for the dog tbh!

disappearingfish · 16/01/2024 12:30

Your dog's a Swiftie now. You're just going to have to live with it 😃

drivinmecrazy · 16/01/2024 12:38

Don't say that, she's already threatened to dye him key lime green and take him with her to the concert as a 'therapy dog' 😂

Haha that’s funny! You’ve got to love the quirkiness of dogs!

Spidey66 · 16/01/2024 12:40

Oh the only association my dog has with music is she runs from the room when the theme to Corrie comes on. I think my husband has been doing some secret training when I’m in work:(

tabulahrasa · 16/01/2024 12:45

Have you tried just other female artists?

I mean, I mostly listen to Taylor swift out of choice 😂 but seeing as she spans a fair few genres... I’m struggling to see how a dog would know it’s her?

unless he’s also really into lyrics?...

drivinmecrazy · 16/01/2024 12:50

Think it's more his association with DD2.
Just had the audacity to turn it off and he was straight onto his sofa trying to rip it to shreds.
In his defence he tried to hide his misdemeanours by lying flat and hiding the ripped peace with his sad face on.

We knew he'd struggle when she went back but didn't expect such a visceral reaction.
Hasn't helped he hasn't been well and today is the first day in four that he's feeling better now the meds have finally kicked in.
Think I'm gonna have to take him for an extra walk, to save his sofa and my ears 😂

This might sound a bit off the wall, but what sort of breed-appropriate fulfilment is he getting? He sounds quite worried and anxious, and giving him something else to think about might help.

Weims are hunt-point-retreivers (HPRs), and dogs from that breed group are usually prey driven and very intelligent. They have also been bred to work with people. Just taking the dog out for a walk isn't enough. They benefit from basic obedience (heelwork, sit stay, recall and stop, etc), hunting under control (not always easy to find places to do this, and you will need good recall just in case your dog does find a rabbit; nosework indoors or out is a good alternative) and retrieving (not just chucking a ball, but teaching the dog to wait and go on command etc).

One of our HPRs was destructive when bored (the sofa scenario sounds familiar). Another just becomes a bolshy, obnoxious pain in the arse if she's not getting an appropriate outlet.

Could you maybe try some of those things and see if they help? At the very least, it will give you a break from Taylor Swift!

My ddog likes to howl to music, thankfully he has reasonable taste (Chopin being a favourite) dogs are strange creatures. What's wrong with Taylor Swift anyway Grin. I have the converted tickets!

Thank you for your insight. But we're aware he's an HPR breed.
This is as intended as a bit of a lighthearted thread.

We knew he'd be left with a DD2 shaped hole when she went back.

And have no fear, a 'walk' is never just a walk with him. He has plenty of enrichment inside the house and out.

He just misses his sister because she's the silly one with him.
DD1 relationship with him is different, as is ours.

He's always better when we're all under the same roof

I think you have got off lightly. Mine gets a bit huffy at bedtime if I don't sing "can't take my eyes if you" by Frankie valli.
I can't sing. It sounds awful.

Floralnomad · 16/01/2024 14:01

Get him into something else , our dog is really into the news and if he could talk he’d be an expert on American politics .

EdithStourton · 16/01/2024 17:02

@drivinmecrazy no worries. Enjoy the music!

Rosiiee · 16/01/2024 17:15

Your doggo can come to the concert with me 🐶

IngGenius · 16/01/2024 17:44

Van Morrison In the Garden - always seems to settle the puppies in the car.

I now hate it after a long journey to pick up some foster pups from Scotland.

We no longer measure journey in miles but how many times the song plays! 84 times for us on the Scotland journey.

disappearingfish · 16/01/2024 18:26

Loving all the doggos with strict music rules in their lives 😀

GeidiPrimes · 16/01/2024 18:40

My dog loves a bit of Sia - he hates the repetitive bassy shit I listen to though. We have very different tastes. I thought he hated all music until I decided I had to help him find his jam, and we found Sia 😂

Lottie Murphy pilates videos also a hit - he nods off within minutes.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 16/01/2024 18:49

Which is his favourite song/album? As a swiftie I'm intrigued 😂😂

tinkertee · 16/01/2024 23:22

I've just come for the photos Smile
