What can I mix with my dogs dry food?

2 of my dogs have intolerances.

They are on millies wolfheart now and not having any allergies which is great but they won't eat plain dry food.

I've been soaking it in warm water and mixing in some sardine or mackerel from a tin.

But I'm worrying if they're having too much fish and the price has doubled! It used to be 39p now it's 80p.

I know I can't use human gravy or anything because of the salt.

Dog bone broth is ridiculously expensive and I tried to make my own and they didn't like it.

Any ideas?

Nothing poultry related.

I sometimes mix Arden Grange liver paste (v. small amount) with a bit of warm water and mix the kibble with that.

Egg is another option if they can eat eggs. Raw is fine but mine prefer them lightly scrambled!

I chop up some veggies like carrots, broccoli etc sometimes to add or give some leftovers from dinner like salmon, tuna… only small amounts. My mums dog had really bad diarrhoea and the vet advised a small amount of plain Greek fat free yoghurt.

Warm water is my go too as well.

There’s also a brand called Fur Boost which is like a liquid to add to food or in their water, they do beef flavour and it’s not too expensive if you buy in bulk.

My mums dog has allergies and gets on well with country hunter. This gets mixed in with some dry food.

WagWoofWalkMeeoow · 16/01/2024 10:08

Could they share a Tim. It really doesn't need to be a huge amount of wet added

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 16/01/2024 10:20

A spoonful of Forthglade and a drop of water.

tadpolelove · 16/01/2024 10:26

Natural yogurt
Raw eggs and shell
Scrambled eggs
Liquid sheep's fat
Salmon oil
Coconut oil

HairyQueenofSnots · 16/01/2024 10:28

Millies do wet food also.

Can't you just get a few tins of that with your order and use that as a 'topper'?

Thatwouldbeme · 16/01/2024 10:28

My old dog had pancreatitis and one of the things I gave him was this, boiled butternut squash and sweet potatoes and blend them, maybe you could try it.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 16/01/2024 10:28

My dog also has a poultry intolerance.

I feed her kibble with a tiny amount of wet food mixed through. It's the only thing that has guaranteed she eats it all. Prior to this I've tried eggs, veggies, Greek yoghurt and warm water.

I bought wainwright's lamb yesterday to mic a table spoon in and they're licking their paws like mad 😑

So must be something in it they can't have

Minced beef - fry off some with whatever veg they can eat and that you have left over- use that as your topper.
Minced lamb if they can eat that.
Lily's kitchen have a recipe book if you want to get into it. Ddog is intolerant to a lot of dog food and still trying to get to the bottom of what it is. But can eat mince with swede and carrot mash very happily.

We use this on our fussy dogs food they LOVE it!

Try barking heads wet. High meat content and similar to MW. They also do a wet food. I feed MW with BH wet mixed in.

catelynjane · 16/01/2024 14:29

Do you know what they're allergic to?

I would go down the road of allergy testing so you can find a wet food that they can both tolerate.

CombatBarbie · 16/01/2024 14:40

What are the allergies?

muddyford · 16/01/2024 16:03

My Labrador is sensitive to chicken. He's on a salmon and rice kibble - you need to read labels as many fishy foods have chicken meal in as well, as I suspect the Wainrights lamb has too.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 16/01/2024 17:00

Salmon Oil?

Floramac · 16/01/2024 18:10

I feed millies wolfheart and my pup has intolerance. I buy the tins of sardines in spring water - 60p and use a tiny bit with water and mix and she loves it. One can will last 4 days.

Where do you get it in spring water for 60p please?

I recommend pumpkin puree. It's healthy and has fiber. Dogs usually love it. I've only met a couple that didn't.
