Worried about my dog

First things first, already booked an appointment at the vet's but it isn't until Thursday, and I'm worried and was hoping someone might give me some ideas as to what could be wrong with my dog, so that I could ask more informed questions. Also want to get this off my chest...

I've got a kooikerhondje puppy (well, a teenager, almost 7 months old). He's been having some digestive problems, it's been about three weeks since it started. It gets better for a few days, then gets worse again, then again better and so on. We're in a very bad phase right now.

His poo always looks very good in the morning, firm, but during the day he always develops diarrhea. Every day is the same, no matter what he eats. He has been on a light diet for four days (rice, chicken and carrots with peas, all cooked very soft), but nothing has changed. He eats slowly and hesitantly (previously he always inhaled his food, it started even before the light diet). He also sheds more than usual and started licking his paws (but that might also be due to the recent growth spurt). He's not dehydrated.

Any ideas or tips? I'm googling myself crazy here, and asking doc Google always ends with self-diagnosed cancer, so please help me stay sane here.

My current Lab was like this, not bothered about eating, floppy poo. It was suggested he was sensitive to chicken so swapped him onto salmon-based food and have had no further problems. He started eating with relish - odd that, as if he knew the chicken-based food wasn't good for him.

I would try not to worry too much about nutrients in the short term - what you need is for his poo to firm up, then you can worry about his long-term diet.

Is he up to date on his wormers?

Yes, he's had his last monthly worm cure two weeks ago.

Today has been really bad, he's refusing to eat and the little he's managed has almost immediately exploded out of him... Fingers crossed for the vet visit tomorrow.

Bless him, I hope you get some answers.

My lab was exactly the same and switching her to a grain free fish and potato based food sorted her out.

His food is already grain free, his wet food was horse based and we also give him (beef) kibble for enrichment games. Haven't had any problems before, but who knows. I will ask the vet to run tests for parasites and allergies.

He's fine otherwise, trying to get me to play fetch with his toy duck by repeatedly throwing it under the sofa and barking at me to get it - it's super annoying, so of course he loves it 🤣

So, an update for anyone who's still interested... We're back from the vet, they're treating him for a gastrointestinal infection. He got two injections and a probiotic paste, we're to come back tomorrow for another round of injections.

Fingers crossed that sorts him out

Yep, fingers crossed. Seems a simple fix which is good all round. Thinking of the pup.
