Well, she can’t sleep on her bed if it’s wet… .

There’s something really relaxing about a sleeping dog .

Pewpewbarneymcgrew · 10/02/2024 21:01

Put lots of towels down ! I tried puppy pads but she just shredded them

Wolfiefan · 10/02/2024 21:52

Look at dog training advice and support for help on toilet training. (On FB). Puppies don’t know they need to wee outside. You need to be outside when they need to wee. Praise. Then they make the link. No towels or pee pads inside.

Christening her brand new bed ! 😲

Tilllly · 10/02/2024 23:55

Apparently Daisy go night nights doesn’t mean stay in your bed and go to sleep, as I thought
It means jump out of bed and bark at shadows then run round the room 🤣

Early days, we keep taking her outside

Good morning @Tilllly hope she got some sleep in her own bed 😉.

Tilllly · 11/02/2024 07:59

@stepintochristmas1

If by that you mean our bed is now her bed, yes, she slept till 7

She dive bombed me awake then wanting breakfast, and had a big girl wee and poo on her puppy pad

Is it sad I'm living for these photos on this thread at the moment ? My lab is not even a year old ! Seems it's like childbirth you forget all the bad bits , and think standing outside in a ridiculous get-up in the middle of the night in pouring rain wasn't that bad .

I could send a picture of when she misses the puppy pads...?😁

If I may offer advice OP, I would ditch the pads. They just ultimately delay the process by teaching it’s OK to toilet indoors, and there’s always the risk that they’ll confuse the texture with carpet so you’ll take her somewhere carpeted and she’ll see it as a giant toilet.

Every 10-15 mins, out in garden for a mooch. Stay out til she goes. Introduce your cue-word when she does so she builds the association. Quiet praise then back inside. If she doesn’t go after about 15-20 mins in the garden, back inside but keep her on your lap for another 5-10 mins then back out. You’re basically trying to make it as hard as possible for her to toilet indoors. At night, crate in your room: she will wake when she needs to go, stir, wake you up - scoop her up, down to the garden in your PJs (I also got a puppy in winter which in hindsight was bad timing!) and then back to bed once she’s been.

It’s full-on at first but you can soon start lengthening the time between garden trips and it ultimately is easier than having to re-teach that we don’t toilet in the house at all, including on pads.

BirthdayRainbow · 11/02/2024 22:08

I used pads for a few days then spent the whole day outside, literally. I only came in when in needed a wee or a drink. Lots of praise and a biscuit every time she went to the toilet outside. Training done.

stepintochristmas1 · 11/02/2024 22:16

I agree ditch the pads . Go for an intensive puppy toileting regime and you will be reaping the rewards . The next two or three weeks will seem you're forever outside but it's so worth it .It's not acceptable to go inside ever . I did have a pen for my dogs to go the loo in the garden .

Tilllly · 11/02/2024 22:45

Thank you for the advice- I do appreciate it but I just can't be outside that long or often with her

In a day or two, will take her out a lot more often
She's gone for a wee outside twice today - and very pleased with herself she was too
