Oh yes I forgot about horns! I'll never forget this monstrosity landing on my door step. I think this one is quite hard so I do watch Fluffpup with this one- but she does tend to gnaw, rather than chew it. Also can play the - "is this a sex toy or dog toy game..."
Ostrich bones and knuckles from JR pets are good - not sure what age from.

tizwozliz · 04/02/2024 15:31

I bought a couple of horns the other week but had to confiscate them as both of mine crack them into shards.

For small pups I find the lamb braids pretty good. I remember the first time we gave one at 12 weeks it lasted a good 20 minutes. Sadly they only last a minute these days!

userxx · 04/02/2024 20:40

pupxx enjoys a play bone, it’s a small marrowbone. Keeps him quiet.

Welcomed this little cutie, Mocha the Sprocker, to our home today. We also have a 5.5yr old cocker spaniel, who is wondering when the alien will disappear again!

Ahh new pups. It's seems a world away from when we got Hazel, yet it was only 4 months ago!

Aw they are so cute!! 🥰

Devilshands · 05/02/2024 08:33

@Joystir59 @missy111

They are both LOVELY. I also love how they are surrounded by toys/blankets - puppies living their best lives already!

Hope your resident dogs take to the new arrival quickly and, of course, do their best to help you in training the little one.

Seeing puppies always brightens up my morning😍

Thanks for the chew recommendations. We have an antler but she’s not fussed by it anymore, she seems to have gone off most of her toys although she has just done a further disembowelment of foxy this morning. She likes her ball, although even a tennis ball got the teeth treatment the other day. 🤔 I wonder if it’s a boredom thing? I’ve bought her a few new toys off vinted but I can’t afford to keep buying things for her to be not interested!
I’ll look at those olive/wood roots. I bought her a selection box of animal parts, the first box I got was excellent, the second nothing seems to last more than a few minutes. I keep forgetting to make up kongs as well, I will do a couple this afternoon to keep in the freezer.

Are you taking the toys away and swapping them round. I was sceptical, but boo has just rediscovered a stuffed snake I stuck up on a shelf a week or so ago and it’s like it’s the best thing ever.

JaneIves · 05/02/2024 10:58

Another thanks for the chew recommendations - this olive wood stick came yesterday, JanePup is currently trying to destroy it!

@BackToLurk yes I do rotate them, there’s some she is just not interested in at all though. I think I need to respond to her disembowelment drive and make her some sort of stuffed thing with loads of safe goodies to rip out. It’s the way animals kill/eat I guess.maybe it’s natures response to needing more offal/guts in her diet 🤣

I ordered some cow hooves after seeing them recommended, all over the box and the description it says safe for puppies, but one quick google says no you must never give them to dogs of any age, they can splinter. So now I don’t think I’ll give them to her, it’s so annoying when different advice is everywhere. I did consider whether if I soaked them they would be better/less likely to splinter?

Any advice for “perfectly well house trained, except when it’s really bad weather”

Look at those needle teeth 😬

Whyisitsosohard · 06/02/2024 22:39

Gorgeous pups. Wish I had advice @BackToLurk but my poodle cross is a nightmare with toilet training. He's 7 months and honestly very hit and miss despite me following easy peasy puppy squeezy to the letter.

Riverlee · 07/02/2024 09:36

My pup looks ‘perfectly house trained’ at the moment as he’s happily gnawing on an antler horn.

Earlier, he was shedding a packet of tissues to bits, and wasn’t interested in same antler horn.

Lougle · 07/02/2024 15:03

@BackToLurk do you mean wee/poo accidents? It's just a case of back to the beginning when it's bad weather. So every 20 minutes/30 minutes/1 hour depending on how long between accidents. Huge praise for going outside, no fuss for going inside.

Quick question. What did you all do in the early days when puppy gets excited by visitors. Mainly younger children who obviously want to play but it just turns her into a crazy thing. I feel like I spend the whole time apologising or trying to calm her down.

lazzaroo · 07/02/2024 17:03

I should probably add she’s literally only been home 2 weeks so is still learning. She knows ‘sit’ but that can obviously be challenging when she’s so excited.

Whyisitsosohard · 07/02/2024 20:20

We had to use a pen to keep our toddler out of bounds as she's selectively deaf with the word no. Now we have a dog door so pup can always escape if he wants outside (garden secured). His own toys and bed that the kids aren't allowed to touch or use. They won't play nicely. Kids generally get overexcited, dog jumps and mouths so it's not worth it. Keep them separate.

lazzaroo · 07/02/2024 20:40

Thank you. We don’t have young children ourselves it’s people that have come specifically to meet the puppy. I feel a bit mean taking puppy away when that’s what they’ve come for!! Our own children are older and are quite good at ‘distract or ignore’. I think I need reassurance that the way she behaves is not abnormal and ‘typical’ puppy madness. I’m stressing out that people think she’s poorly behaved which I know sounds ridiculous because they only see her when she’s at her craziest.

Lougle · 07/02/2024 20:41

Puppy pen all the way!

lazzaroo · 07/02/2024 20:45

Thank you. We have a puppy pen which she uses in the day while my husband works. I know you’re right and we need to start using it more in these situations.

Whyisitsosohard · 08/02/2024 00:16

I mean this really kindly but she is a puppy and who cares what people think about her behaviour. It's like worrying people think a baby crying is badly behaved. She can't control her environment so it's your job to keep her safe.

lazzaroo · 08/02/2024 07:07

Yes, I know you’re right. Thanks.

BackToLurk · 08/02/2024 09:05

Well I’ve had a terrible couple of days. I don’t know if BooDog is feeling a bit off but he has been so bitey. Proper snapping at legs and arms, together with random barking. Eating fine just really grumpy. Feels relentless as I thought we’d turned a corner with the biting
