My dog was diagnosed with this 2 months ago. It's a horrible cancer. His lump is not removable and chemo doesn't sound suitable. Anyone have experience if this? I'm so sad

Have they actually tested it or are they saying it’s likely to be this ? And where is the tumour ?

NormaLouiseBates · 14/11/2023 22:20

I do sadly have experience of this with our previous dog, Alfie. I'm not sure how much to say though as I don't want to upset you... 🥺

FedUpofPeepShow · 14/11/2023 22:22

He definitely has this. It's an unusual presentation - it's a lump on his head. It's getting bigger and spreading and is starting to affect his eye. We aren't going to let him suffer and I know it's incurable. It's just so horrible

Yes, I have though not in the same location.
He was initially diagnosed with a tumour on his spleen & went in for the op to have his spleen removed. The vet rang me while she had him opened up on the operating table to say she’d found it “ all through him”, spread to his liver & a few other small tumours. Should she put him to sleep there & then or stitch him back up, without removing anything, so I could ring him home to live the “ few weeks” he had left on pain killers.
Well, bolt from the blue doesn’t cover it, she’d told me she had expected him to make a full recovery after the splenectomy, I’d had experience of this years ago with another dog who recovered. In shock I said I’d bring him home.
Well. I initially took him back every week while she monitored him. She couldn’t believe how well he seemed to come round after the op. The weekly checks became monthly checks, then two monthly checks…….for three years!
Every time vet said..” he doesn’t even know he’s ill !!!!”
Three years later he did succumb but only over one weekend when he suddenly collapsed so had to finally let him go.

Oh wow, that's a good story. I think it is more typical to have it in the organs. I'm just so unsure as to whether he is in pain.we are giving him loxicom and he's often shivery

Sadly, yes. Twice. Both lab mixed breeds. It's said to be very common in labs and German shepherds.

Both our dogs had to be PTS within a month of diagnosis. There really is not much that can be done.

The first time we tried everything. Took her to a top veterinary teaching hospital. Spent a fortune on chemotherapy. Looking back we really wish we had let her go there and then.

Which is what we did with our next dog, when she had the same diagnosis. Spoiled her rotten for a couple of weeks. Then had a specialist vet come to our house to put her to sleep. Better a day too soon than to late.

But I know how hard this is.

I'm so sorry. That's really sad. Mine is a Jack Russell so quite unusual. He is loving his walks, eating well and enjoying cuddles still. Very lively. But I'm aware he doesn't have long. We are just making the best of the time we have. If the lump was somewhere else it could maybe be removed but apparently not from his head and the vet has advised against chemo

Thinking of you.

Until last weekend, I had never heard of this but my sproodle (springer poodle) was diagnosed with this in her spleen and chest on Saturday. She came home on Sunday and we hoped to have at least a few weeks left with her. She deteriorated so quickly and was in lots of pain so we took her back to the vets on Monday morning and she was put to sleep. It all happened so fast and I am lost without my beautiful shadow.

I hope that you have some time with your dog and that they are pain free xx

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. When it's in the organs it seems cruelly fast to take over. Your poor lovely dog 😢
Our boy is still with us, with an ever growing lump on his head. Still sneezing blood occasionally but wants to go for walks and eat. So we are still here but I don't know how long for. Very afraid of a sudden turn for the worse
