Where do you put your muddy dog

Hi! I have 2 dogs and we live on a farm, so obv mud and dirt outside however I don't want it all inside, we do have utility/boot room once you come through the front door on the left, but it's getting the dogs into it, they potter all about the entrance bit and then into the hall if I'm not quick enough then in and out in and out whilst the kids are pandering though, I'm losing the battle. So just asking what do you guys do with dirty dogs till you can get them sorted, do you have a area away from the door? A separate door? Just live with it?
We are looking to put a extension on the kitchen and thinking of possible options however it's the other side of the house . Any tips be greatly appreciated! 🐾

Baby gate between the back porch and the kitchen. The dogs get hosed off in the downstairs shower which is just inside the back door, then I towel them off/put their drying coats on, and only let into the house when they're not trailing mud with them.

Crates by the back door

Pop on lead before entering so you can control where they walk while muddy. Large old carpet mat is good to capture mud straight away.

We have a door from outside into the room they get showered in, so they don’t have to go through any other part of the house til they’re clean.

We trained him to wait by the back door to have his paws wiped.

After a walk he comes in on a lead and straight to be washed off.

We've trained him to wait on the door mat after a walk or he's been in the garden to have his paws dried off. If he needs a proper wash, he gets carried in from the front door, up the stairs and straight into the bath! Not ideal but I'm not having a muddy dog wandering around!

Outside hot water tap to hose off.

Towels down in the utility room until they dry off.

Then they come into the kitchen but don't go anywhere else in the house.

We have two thick doggy paw mats by the door, they walk on one then the other. No mud

Thank you, just looking at the muddy paw mats

Also on a farm. I work hard at making the area immediately outside of the house as mud free as possible by increasing the area of the cobbles outside.

I have hot and cold tap outside so hose the dogs off before they enter the house.

They do have their own dog room which once they are hosed off they wait in until dry. If very wet they have equafleece on to dry them off quicker.

There is a door to the dog room but they are very happy to stay in there even with the door open as they are usually tired when they are in the house.

Sad I know but all the dogs have been taught to dry their feet on a rug if just coming in and out. Very easy to do to get them to dig onto a rug to get the worst mud off.

We hose them in the garden. If not raining leave them outside for a bit to dry off , then towel dry them and make them lie on towels in the hall. We have no utility or other rooms like that.

Houseplanter · 10/11/2023 08:51

Hooks on the wall outside to hook their leads on while I sorted kids and myself. Then fetched them in once I'd prepped for them...

Apossum · 10/11/2023 08:53

On a farm here too. They get their legs and belly hosed down if they’re really rough, then/or a scrub with a towel, then chucked over the fence (not literally, don’t come for me, animal activists 🤣) into the garden for half an hour or so if the weather is dry. If raining, they come into the boot room and are given a chew of some kind to convince them to lie in their beds to dry off a bit more. They stay out there until they’re less damp and stinky!

If it’s just muddy paws, we tell him to wait on the doorstep until we’ve wiped his feet, if he’s super muddy or has rolled in fox poo (his fave!), he stays on a short lead and we walk him straight upstairs to the shower. He knows when he’s going to the shower because he does his best Daily Fail compo face!
