Mud daddy yes or no?

Our 7 month old Labrador hates the bath and shower. I’ve had a few recommendations for the mud daddy so I can bath her outside with warm water rather than cold from the hose.

any thoughts on the mud daddy or any other recommendations??
would also love a recommendation for a good dog brush thank you

We have a hozelock portable shower. It does the job but they hate it as much as a bath

Rechargeable shower (mine was £30 on Amazon) is much more versatile. Mine don't mind it at all, and I just have two buckets, one with plain water, the other with shampoo water and move the shower pump from one to the other.

We used one with our last pup as she liked water.

Current one does not so we haven't bothered. Usually I just rub her down with a towel but If she's very mucky I get a flannel and use that with warm water, followed by a towel. A dog who hates the bath/shower won't like a mud daddy any better.

We have one. Great for when we are away or as a quick wash down of muddy legs but couldn’t use it when she needs a full on shower.

We have one and it's great for when she's filthy after a muddy walk. Gets her clean in about 5 minutes and then I put on her dog drying coat. She's pretty much dry by the time we get home.

I don't know how effective it would be for a full shower but I suppose it depends on how often you're doing it. Every now and again it would work I suppose. You shouldn't be bathing / showering your dog too frequently anyway, it's not good for their coats.

Best money I have ever spent is having a hot and cold outside tap.

Thingamebobwotsit · 07/11/2023 18:57

Save your money. We barely use ours.

We have one for our lab 3rd year now still going strong... Although our boy is a bit of a snowflake...

We have to also take a flask of hot water to add in as he doesn't like being sprayed down with cold water despite just getting out of the muddy river

One of the top things we bought for him

Mine was invaluable for my small long furred dog when he got older and a combination of arthritis and medication meant his bum often needed a quick, warm wash before coming back in the house/car.

However, I did let a friend use it to try and wash her labrador after he rolled in something dead and stinky and it was very hard work. Better for small areas than a whole dog I think.

Mud daddy's are really expensive for what they are.

Just buy a more generic hand pump pressure washer. It won't be marketed at pets, it will be for bicycles, the patio etc - but exactly the same in practice. Ours was about a tenner and it's great.

I wish I'd known this before spending £55.00 😭😂

I have one for my lab and I love it. I thought of the pump spray, but wanted the attached brush. Mud daddy do refurbished units, and have offers regularly, so don't pay full price.

The insulation jacket keeps the contents warm for hours, so we can take it when we go out. Useful for cleaning wellies too.

It does amaze me how doggo will jump in a cold puddle, but does not like a cold spray.

As others have said, it's not a replacement for a full wash, but it gets mud off very easily after a walk. I don't like washing doggo too often as it isn't good to remove the natural oils in his coat, so this is great for my purposes.

Jumping on this a little as I've also been considering one. We have a retriever who loves to roll in 💩

We have a normal sprayer pump without the brush but it's still a faff. Would the brush bit make it easier or am I best finding some sort of jacket with neck coverage?

The brush was definitely the selling point for me. I daresay one could rig something up on a normal pump spray, but for me, it was worth getting the ready made unit.

That said, I'm not sure I'd want to use the brush on poo as it would get into the bristles, however carrying a separate cloth, it would easily be possible to spray water from the mud daddy and use a cloth with a bit of shampoo then wash with the brush once the poo is removed. The brush assembly has a few holes in the middle for the water spray, and then the bristles around the outside.

It cleaned shithead doggo up from this state quite happily.

I was just chatting with someone who had a Mud Daddy which they said was fine for their terrier, but not strong/capacious enough when they got a golden retriever - they ended up with a Karcher which they are happy with. So I think it does depend on your dog's size and floofiness!
