1 dog need hypoallergenic food…

Dog 1, 3 years old has allergies but is a dog dustbin and hoover. We have tried novel protein and wheat free but no good. So we are not doing an 8 week food trial using hydrolysed diet.

Dog 2, 10 years old is a fussy bugger, but could, if he wanted, eat anything.

How do we managed the 3 year getting the hydrolysed food (which doesn’t sound like the taste will be great) and still getting the 10 year old to not look at us like we are trying to poison him? Or how do we manage to give the 10 year old different food without any of it being snaffled.

Final conundrum- they are used to getting a dental treat in the evening, a small whemziees crocodile. Bang on 7 o’clock they are asking for this. But no longer allowed.

Any advice?

I don’t have any completely genius suggestions, but I have three dogs on three different foods (1 fish based, that’s all she can have, that doesn’t suit the other adult and then the puppy on puppy food) and i feed them all in separate rooms.
That’s the only way it works, mainly because the first one is a greedy sod and would snaffle hers then snaffle everyone else’s 🤦‍♀️

Have you tried putting something really smelly, like salmon oil on for the fussy one?
For the dental treat could they have something natural, like a tripe stick or fish jerky?

Just fed them in different rooms. Most dogs love the hydrolysed food.

Save a but of their food back to give them at 7.00 instead of their dental chew.

When stomachs are settled you can try giving a carrot if that does not upset their stomachs

Thanks. We can try different rooms, fussy bugger has a food dance we play most nights. Asks for food, sniffs it, eats one piece of occasionally none, decides he isn’t hungry and wanders off. Repeat a few more times before he actually eats the bloody stuff.

I might try the salmon oil - but won’t the smell torment the other one? Good to hear most dogs like it, maybe fussy bugger will be ok then.

I thought I might try some of the wet hydrolysed food in a kong for their treat. They still get the waggy tail moment but all allowed.

Just feed them separately. If the older one is fussy you can warm his food up or add toppings to make it more enticing.

Last time we tried warming fussy bugger’s food up he just looked at us as if it was poison and refused to eat at all. It is such a funny look, suspicious and disappointed rolled into one.

A microchip feeder would work, put the oldies food in and only he can access it.

Feed separately
