Ears flushed?

my 3 year old cockerpoo is due to be sedated tomorrow to have her ears flushed due to quite a stubborn infection! Does anyone know roughly how long this takes and the rough cost? (Thank god for pet insurance!!)

My dog has had this done a few times recently, Cost £120. No idea how long the actual flushing out took but I had to drop her off first thing in the morning and they called me when she was done (time depended on if they had any emergencies that day). Hope your dog is ok.

You'll have your answers by now and I hope all went well.

Some other 'tips'...

Your vet will most likely have done this but make sure they are frequently swabbing the ear to check what the bacteria is and what it is vulnerable to. Don't stop any treatment until you have a clear swab back.

For eg I have seen vets swab at the end of a course of drops and not prescribe another bottle to tide you over until the swab results come back. So you have a few days of nothing while you wait. If the ear is clear that's fine but if you haven't fully cured the infection, you risk resistance to the anti-b and have to go to something more serious next time round.

Once you have identified the antibiotic that is likely to work, you don't ever stop until you have swab confirmation the infection is fully gone. 'Gold standard' is to have TWO clear swabs before you stop, taken 2 weeks apart. (As recommended to me by a senior specialist in dermatology).

Stubborn/persistent ear infections are often caused by allergies or food intolerances. Make sure you're talking to your vet about them and how to check for them (testing for environmental allergies, food exclusion diets for food allergy/intolerances). It's a pita but if tyou miss this out, you will be battled ears off and on forever.
