Dog tooth extraction

I have just been quoted £560 by the vets to remove 1 wobbly tooth from my pomeranian. Is this excessive? Could I just let it come out naturally?

That seems excessive

Does your dog need a general anaesthetic, full dental descale, dental X rays and the like? I paid about £800 for a cat for one tooth but it was a full treatment rather than the tooth alone.

Thanks for the replies. It's a local anaesthetic. I've already had them descaled

It's on the high side.

It was just under £500 for DDog to have extractions for teeth that had not properly come through (including Xrays, optional bloods, all anaesthesia costs and monitoring, a descaling whilst they were under anyhow and all post-procedure checks).

Insurance (slightly to my surprise) covered all of it. Descaling isn't normally covered, but other dental conditions and injuries are. Are your insurers being difficult?

£560?! That’s daylight robbery considering they’re using local anaesthetic. Give him a bone 😂to chew on.
I would ask the vet if you could let it fall out naturally.

Buzzer3555 · 14/10/2023 20:41

Guess what .... it just fell out

Thank goodness for that! I paid £1050 for my greyhound (breed has terrible dental issues, so please don't judge!) to have 27 teeth removed. Dental work is expensive, but your quote sounds on the high side.

I'm thanking the power of mumsnet...which is totally irrational

If one tooth was so loose that it fell out there are probably others than can only be properly assessed once under general anaesthetic that need to come out. Unfortunately due to their face shape poms are at high risk of significant dental disease.

Glad it came out.
My little Yorkie had a loose tooth. As she was old my old vet, now sadly retired, didn’t want to risk a GA. Said did I mind if she just took her through the back to see what she could do. Came back smiling, said she’d just flicked it out with her fingers as it was so loose. I’d been trying to no avail.

2019 my pugapoo had 12 teeth out and rest cleaned for £350 North Wales.
