I have a large lab he's mostly well behaved with occasional bouts of looniness. His recall is pretty good maybe 95% but to be on safe side When walking in public areas I keep him on lead.
Where we walk we sometimes see an older women (70's) with a small poodle. It's always off lead (even near roads) and when it sees my dog it will run over and bark/snap/snarl aggressively. My dog doesn't react but jumps /tries to get away (he is on lead). The women will come and get it and apologise . I've been fairly nice as when training my dog I have been on receiving end of arsey dog owners. But this dog isn't playing it's being aggressive. It happened again today and I said to the women she needs to keep her dog Ona lead and pointed out if a big dog retaliates it could kill her dog. She got aggressive (like owner like pet) and shouted at me that's she's had cancer, and told me to shut up and go away. She also said to report her if I have a problem. (I don't know her name or address)
I don't see her every day it's usually random maybe once every few weeks. I can obviously try to avoid them but I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm worried about my dog getting jumpy around other dogs. I wondered about letting him off lead when we see them. He wouldn't hurt her dog but might scare it when he's bounding about. But her dog might successfully bite him which would obviously be worse.
Any ideas of how to resolve this situation?
