Two bitches success stories?

We've got a 3 year old bitch who has always seemed in need of a playmate, this weekend we brought home a 9 week old bitch puppy. So far so good, they've been playing a bit and giving each other space. Since we brought the pup home I've had a few comments about two bitches being a bad idea, and that most likely one will need to be rehomed in the future. I feel like a bit of an idiot for not knowing this in advance, the more I google the more sick I feel about potentially having made a huge mistake. I would hate to do anything destabilise our 3 year old, she's very placid and submissive.
I suppose I am looking to hear other people's experiences, I was hoping they would be bonded at the hip, not fighting to the death, is it always disaster?

I have two bitches. The older one treated the younger one like her own puppy and even produced milk for her despite never being bred. They are extremely close even now 5 years later

The old myth is that dogs fight to breed, bitches fight to breathe. i.e. bitch fights are far more serious than dog fights.

However, I cannot honestly say this has ever really played out in real life in any multi dog households I have seen. I have known many all-female homes that have been a picture of good friendship. Some have been difficult but no more and no worse way that mixed or all-male homes.

I'm not convinced it's a myth, to be honest. I've read so many stories where people have had to re-home bitches because they just won't stop fighting - often this happens after years of living in harmony.

EDIT: There's even a thread going in here right now where a lady has had to re-home one of her bitches as they began to fight and one really hurt the other.

Doesnt have to be a problem at all. We had 2 before and they were really good friends. The only problem we had, was that they werent interested at all in other dogs anymore (which wasnt really a problem at all), they just ignored everyone else. I sometimes felt like im walking the gossip girls of the town when they just ignored and turned up their noses at every other dog 😄

I think all combinations can be great or backfire. Different problems with each male/male, female/female or male/female. They can all work out great or not at all.

Little ball of GSP energy you have got yourself there.

I belong to a gundog training club and a few days ago was watching the GSPs hunting a stubble field like bloody machines.

Friend had bred Staffies years ago, she kept two pups once. They were fine- she had other dogs to pomeranians, chihuahuas, cat and rabbits too. All running free. Large home, plenty of space. Never an incident. Looking back on it I am shocked, as animals just don’t seem to mix that well anymore…

Thanks again everyone, it’s really helpful to hear other people’s experiences!
@EdithStourton bundle of energy is right! She’s come out of her shell in the last day and we’ve hit full bonkers puppy! Our older girl is now less than impressed, she doesn’t remember that she was worse…

We've got 2 birches ages 12.5 & 8. Eldest was 8 when we took on youngest as rescue. A few teething issues as they sorted out who was boss but all good since. They get on brilliantly, sleep & play together.
