We get our new puppy next week and I have done so much research etc but there is so much conflicting info. I’ve looked at previous posts and some people are for crates and others not. If we did go for a crate where should we put it? Our bedroom is in the loft and then childrens bedrooms mid floor and then downstairs living room and kitchen etc. Would it be bed for the puppy to sleep in the living room in the crate or is this a no no?
Thanking in advance for any replies X

Puppies adapt to the environment so do what suits you from the word go and stick to it.

If you have a utility room I'd always use that as they are easy to puppy proof but if not a crate downstairs until a bit older and able to be left unsupervised overnight.

Some posters will advocate bedrooms but imo its better and cleaner to keep them downstairs. Lots of cuddles on the sofa and keep bedrooms dog free is my preference but each to their own. It will cry the first couple of nights, we slept downstairs with ours the first night as it is a stressful transition for them but once settled amd familiar leave them to it and they learn to self settle very quickly,

Hmm, I think one of you will have to sleep downstairs with the puppy while it settles in and while you sort out toilet training.

Decide where you want the pup to sleep.
Make it secure. (Whether that's a crate or not is up to you really.
Be prepared to sleep close to pup for first few days/weeks. (We were lucky - bungalow)
Don't let it cry itself to sleep. It's a baby. It needs you
In the early weeks (small bladder!) we took it in shifts to be with pup. So I did last wee at about midnight. OH did first wee at about 5.30. Those times werent too much of a stretch outside our normal sleep patterns.

It doesn’t matter where they sleep to begin with as long as it’s with you.

We used a crate in our bedroom but popped pup in when she was sleepy then let her out as she was stirring. I do crate train but that’s different and takes a long time. Once pup was going through the night we just penned her into an area of our room and kept the crate door open for her. Our house is quite open plan and we have a cat so that works best for us. She now sleeps until we get up 🙂
