Hi,
Just after a bit of advice really.
So we're a family of 5 and we have a 9 year old cat.
My partner has had dogs over the years and would love a staffie as he had a few.
My older children - 16 and 18 have a labrador at their dad's but my 8 year old has never had a dog, though been around friends. It would be my first dog.
We have a garden and green areas nearby too, like walking though probably not massive walks in the week only weekends.
My work is flexible so can be at home a few days a week.
My partner has heart set on a staffie, I was thinking lab or cockerpoo though open to ideas.
Thank you.

UndercoverCop, every one else on here reckons labs don't need this kind of experience, yes I have elderly neighbours with elderly fat labs. I have one one neighbour who does a 3 minutes dog walk (not a lab) no one ever believed me, including my DH and DD who put the baby in the car on our driveway and said 'done the dog walk "!!! Trouble is, this IS Mumsnet, for everyone who walks their dogs 10 hours a day, there will be someone who leaves the dog 10 hours a day, and the dog is perfectly fine. Everyone, family, dog situation is different. I've had 10 dogs overall, 3 lived to around 18, none of these breeds have a life expectancy that long. I have a friend with a 3 year old pug,who has cost her thousands. You can only speak as you find.

@UndercoverCop - daily that sounds like a couple of hours with more at weekends, the person up thread talked about double that.

More like 3-4 if walking if he was running with the bike two hours but obviously more intensive. Lots more at weekends plus the agility classes

I’d avoid cockerpoos / spaniels on this thread, they can suffer with separation anxiety. They also like decent walks.
Cockers I’d particularly avoid with children due to resource guarding.

What experience does your 9yr old cat have with dogs? Regardless of dog breed, the two animals might not mix well (from painful experience!)

Pure bred KC registered Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Fabulous family pet. Seems to be genetically designed to their family. They are the best dogs.

Labs are wonderful but they need a lot of exercise and a lot of mental stimulation. They love their humans so won't be happy being left for too long. Probably true of many dogs.
