I've found a puppy I'm interested in via Kennel Club, what do I need to ask the breeder to ensure they're not dodgy?

Thanks!

Sorry I can't really help but I wonder if you would get more replies if you changed your heading to something a bit less breed specific.

The kennel club website has quite a lot of info on choosing a dog, what to ask the breeder etc. I'd start by reading that.

I would go and meet them and then ask the questions. We viewed several litters who looked good on paper which were anything but in person!

I wanted to know:
Health tests
Temperament of parents
Whether breeder did any kind of training with the mum (as I want a dog who liked to learn)
All about dad (he was a CC stud so info easy to find online but breeder also knew all about him)
Pup raised in a house or outside - big difference IME there
Why the breeder was breeding - obviously they can lie but you can tell when they genuinely care about the dog or they are a money machine

Loads of other things in person - we viewed two litters which we were serious about - the first one the pups were not interested in us. Very flat. Quite nervy. Pedigree on paper good but didn't get a good vibe. Liked the breeder a lot but pups not for us. Second one we ended up choosing - as soon as we arrived we were mobbed by 7 healthy happy pups while mum and her relatives looked on calmly after a quick, polite and friendly greeting. Cats, chickens, horse and other dogs all in the vacinity. Met an older dog from a previous litter we really liked the temperament of.

We have only had rescues before so found it a steep learning curve! The KC site is a good place to start.
