My 14 week old cocker spaniel started off sleeping in her bed at the side of my bed however in the last week she's realised she can get on to the bed. Wouldn't be such an issue but she wakes me up through the night biting my hands!

It was my plan that once she was settled and sleeping a bit better she'd move to the kitchen however now I'm worried it's too late and she will have separation anxiety.

Never thought I'd feel worried about that, all other dogs I've had have slept in the kitchen from day 1. I'm blaming peri hormones!

Is it too late? Is there a kinder way to get her sleeping in the kitchen, or should I be going cold turkey? Or do I need to resign myself to being a human chew toy forever more?! Grin

14 weeks is still young, it’s not too late.

Id suggest crate training her, have the crate in your room at first where her bed usually is. Then slowly move it further away, onto the landing and then eventually downstairs in the kitchen. That way her safe space goes with her through the transition, and she learns how to be separated from you

I used to sleep downstairs on the sofa big & comfi) with doggy in crate beside me.
I never allowed my dogs upstairs because... well they would want to sleep on the lovely, warm and comfortable bet!

…ah but that’s what puppy pens are for 😉 We haven’t let The Terrier work out our bed is more comfortable than hers!

We are crate training, she goes in through the day for naps and also if my child is eating as she's terrible for stealing food! As long as we are in the same room as the crate she is ok but cries if you leave the room.

When we go out she is in the kitchen but not shut in the crate. Not sure if that's more confusing for her.

She's definitely realised that the bed is the comfiest spot Grin never expected her to be able to get up as soon, she barely managed the couch at that point!
