Dog-sitting (in clients home)

My DD isn't well enough to work full time and is taking a kind of 'gap year' getting work experience in a kennels having studied animal care.

I was wondering whether there might be an option for her to do casual dog sitting, especially with bonfire night and Christmas coming up. I'm thinking for people who really don't like leaving their dog for more than a couple of hours and maybe don't go out loads so need one off sitting days or evenings?

Is this a thing? Would she need insurance, and what would the going rate be?

All comments welcome.

I think the demand for this will be really limited if she’s not willing to stay overnight.
My dog Walker offers this and charges £12 ph for it (and that is someone with a lot experience) , and she gets honestly about 10 bookings a year for it.

Does she drive? We are not far from Southampton (40 mins?), and may be interested. We have very few (if any) evening sitters here. They all want to do daytime.

Unfortunately she doesn't drive yet. Not quite up to it, hence the 'gap' year. She needs to learn as kennels etc tend not to be on bus routes!
