She's grown out of hers now - she's a 1 year old, energetic, relatively slim dog and she needs a new coat...

So please, style my dog!!

Why does she need a coat? They shouldn't wear them on walks if prone to going in bushes/undergrowth etc as spaniel breeds are plus they can over heat easily in them.

listsandbudgets · 20/09/2023 13:51

It's more if I'm walking her in a heavy rain storm on a lead which sometimes ends up happening for whatever reason - wouldn't dream of having it on when she's in the park she'd just get stuck in the buses as you say

Equafleece are the best.

Newpeep · 20/09/2023 14:01

Please consider whether she needs one. A coat can hinder movement and communication. I’d personally not put one on a young, fit working breed unless very obvious they were struggling with the weather.

thank you that's food for thought

she's a lovely dog .. wish you could all see her set free and running over the fields

Spaniels have even bred to work all day in winter in crappy weather without a coat. They love diving in and out of hedges/brambles and coats interfere with their fun.

IngGenius · 20/09/2023 15:39

My wcs get wet on the walk and then when we return I put on equafleeces to dry them off quickly.

My guys would overheat if they wore coats when exercising or walking

Floralnomad · 20/09/2023 15:40

Equafleece , they don’t restrict movement and keep them dry .

I’ve just walked home from work and met two spaniels in raincoats panting and really hot. It’s pouring here but warm. We’re off to take the terrier to the beach in the rain. She doesn’t own a coat 😂

you've described her to a T.

luckily we have access to a private large walled area with plenty of bushes as well as a big park with woodland and massive field areas and garden which isn't thar big but she still races about.
We would never have got such an active breed without all that close at hand.

I reckon I will save the coat money and buy her some more toys amd balls she will appreciate them more

Good idea. And like PPs have said, an Equafleece is good for drying off afterwards in the car or at home and helps contain some of the mess!

MetaMette · 20/09/2023 17:11

We have working labs, they have coats to put on post walk if they're muddy and wet. Keeps the mess contained and stops a bit of the wet dog smell. I'd only consider on a walk if it was minus figures and we weren't moving very fast.

itsmyp4rty · 20/09/2023 17:17

I can't imagine for one minute she's bothered by the rain or cold! I'd save your money for sure.

OrlandointheWilderness · 20/09/2023 18:28

Save your money, spaniels don't need coats and they can cause problems if they get caught etc.

Jenzine · 20/09/2023 21:15

The only dog I’ve ever bought a “coat” for is my rough coat lurcher, her fur is as long as a bearded collie’s and it really upsets her when her back gets wet as she can feel the damp fur clumping and tugging her skin. She has a very thin, lightweight rain mac (not unlike an uninsulated human rain mac) and isn’t super keen on rainy weather walks as it is, let alone wanting to do anything more than sniff in weather that would even require a coat. She’s working line on both sides of the family tree (border collie sheepdog mum and deerhound x whippet fox control dog dad) and copes better with cold weather than hot.

I have an equafleece for my bichon mix, but as another poster said about theirs, it’s more “wearable towel” than “coat”. The lanky dog has fur that dries very quickly on her legs which is the only part of her she’ll allow to get wet (she loves paddling, but I made her swim once and I don’t think she’ll ever forgive me) so she doesn’t need one, but the curly dog soaks up water and holds it like a sponge.
