These puppies often end up in shit hands at £3000k a pup. Drug dealers are pretty rich . Absolute scum , breeders and their customers

That tells you everything you need to know about the breeders.....

I noticed that. I googled XL bully yesterday because I wasn't sure what they are and found loads of adverts for well under £1k for pups. I suppose it's a good thing that breeding these dogs may slow or stop but I can't help worry for the breeding dogs and pups already here and what will happen to them.

Anonanonanon1 · 17/09/2023 20:16

People that want one will undoubtedly take advantage of this and buy two.
I am a private hire driver and there are lots of XL bullies around here.
Frequently hear conversations among passengers is, see that dog.... that's what I'm going to get.
Every time it's an XL bully, and every time the type of passengers involved are not the sort that strike me as potentially good owners.

Sitdowncupoftea · 19/09/2023 13:31

Bred by feral and owned by them. They always end up in thecwrong hands. the government should act now and stop all breeding of them.

caramac04 · 19/09/2023 14:00

I wonder which breeds will be crossed next to fill the vacuum?
Banning breeds won’t work.
Backyard breeders will kill the puppies they can’t sell and move on to the next type.

Lovemusic82 · 19/09/2023 14:05

Totally agree. It’s pretty easy to make similar dogs by cross breading, they will move on to another breed.
XL bully pups are likely to be dumped and of course rescues won’t be allowed to home them.

The price of these dogs makes no difference, people find the money to buy them. TBH I think £400 is expensive and I couldn’t afford to pay it. Most rescues ask for £200-£400 for a dog.

madamreign · 19/09/2023 14:08

£1k for a dog??!!!

Never paid more than £50 for a cat.

Puppies are expensive.

Just checked my area, not many XL bully’s, 2 litters priced at £1000 each and several people trying to sell their young dogs calling them ‘Staffie crosses’ when they are obviously XL bullies. Most puppies near me are lab x, doodles etc.. and priced over £1000 per pup.

LakeTiticaca · 19/09/2023 14:38

I'm somewhat surprised ( all though I probably shouldn't be) at the amount of social media posts from XL bully owners with pictures of these huge 11/12 stone dogs cuddling up to small children, with some brain dead moron declaring they are perfectly happy to allow the dogs around kids and they are just gentle giants.
Aren't they all until one of them snaps and kills (yet another) adult/child?

bunnygeek · 19/09/2023 16:44

Prior to the ban, Bullies could change hands for £5k-£10k, sometimes more. Obviously some money laundering going on there.

That's insane.

gogomoto · 19/09/2023 17:07

I thought £400 was a lot. My ddog was £75 (from a reputable farmer as in sheep farmer not puppy farmer!)

Madwife123 · 20/09/2023 04:37

Rescues are already finding an increase in XL bullies being dumped in the street, litter of puppies left at their door etc. It’s going to them who have to pick up the pieces of this ban.

MidnightOnceMore · 20/09/2023 04:45

More and more it feels like we need a dog licensing system again.
We need to get to grips with the breeding issue, people importing unsuitable dogs and people mistreating dogs.

PTS doesn't cost much.

I totally agree with this.
I don’t know why the govt aren’t implementing this. They’re missing out on a source of revenue for a start! 🙄

sashh · 20/09/2023 06:19

Both humans and dogs should have to have a licence.

Humans should have to take a course on dog behaviour and health.

Dogs should have a graded licencing.

Small 'pet' breeds and X breeds that have attended puppy classes and are spayed should be the cheapest. Maybe paid at 6 months and then a small annual fee. I know these are the dogs most likely to bite, but they rarely kill.

Unspayed X breads should be the most expensive. A large fee at 6 months and a large annual fee.

Breeding without a breeding licence should be a prison term.

People who breed large 'pure' breeds eg St Bernard, Great Danes etc and registered with KC would get a discount.

I know that's not fair on the people who have had labs or Spaniels since they were children but I can't think of another way to price out these dangerous dogs.

Banning a breed doesn't work.

Soubriquet · 20/09/2023 06:22

That’s not badly priced. My chihuahuas were £250 and £550 so not much more/less
