I've attached pictures....the past few months my dog smells like fish I assumed it was anal glands.....anyway this dog is a shit when it comes to allowing me to check her so after googling I've managed to check her mouth today....I checked my other dogs mouth and that looked perfect but to be quite honest this one's looks a mess bare in mind never noticed before as she snaps etc if you try and do anything I can't even take her to the groomers anymore as she's such a dick

She needs to go to the vet. They will give her a light sedative if she is unable to be examined.

Her teeth need cleaning and checking for infection - they'll sedate her if they can't manage to do it without.

Okies will book appointment does it look like an infection?

She's got a lot of tartar buildup and what look like broken teeth on top left. Agreed, she needs to see a vet to discuss whether a GA for a clean, check, and take out any broken teeth is in order.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 06/09/2023 14:49

I'm a vet, she definitely needs dental treatment under GA. Book a consultation with your vet.

It's impossible to tell from a photo - her gums look red and inflamed though and her teeth definitely need a proper clean. It's likely that they'll put her under anaesthetic, have a good look, then clean/remove teeth as necessary.

Thanks everyone I do feel bad but honestly she is the most awkward dog ever at 5 years old I just don't know why...I didn't realise the tooth was broken not sure how she could have done that

I don't think that's broken it's the bottom tooth it just looks like it's a top tooth in the pic

No need to feel bad - you're doing something about it now - that's what's important!

It's also not necessarily anything you could have fixed - some dogs just have bad teeth no matter what you do.

HareSong · 06/09/2023 15:19

It's also possible she might be snappy because her teeth are hurting. Definitely worth a vet visit.

See the black bit where I’ve circled? I’m pretty confident that’s a socket and the reason it’s not healed and smoothed over is because there’s an infected root in there.

Vets will tell you for sure.

Same thing on the other side, except you can actually see the manky root.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 06/09/2023 16:18

The circled area on the LHS does not look like a broken tooth to me. It looks like she has probably already lost the tooth that used to be there (a while ago) and the socket has healed. What you can see are the ridges on her hard palate.

However, she has a significant tartar build-up on her teeth (the brown material) and gingivitis (inflamed, red gums), particularly by her upper canines. She needs a scale and polish, and the teeth assessing gor signs of decay.

MarjorieStuartBaxter · 06/09/2023 20:52

Thanks all....both dogs have dentatix type things regularly and my other dog s teeth are actually more than fine so maybe she just has issues but will know for sure when I've taken her to the vets
