Dog walking boots

Hi

Does anyone have any dog walking boot recommendations . I have a pair of Dubarry but I'm not willing to use those for walking the dog as they cost a lot .

Iv heard good things about Dublin River boots . Any recommendations? And where to buy them . Also I need wide calfed boots.

Muck boots.

I too have recently purchased my first pair of muck boots. I got them in the sale at Very, they were still expensive but hopefully worth it.

I have some Dublin river boots and they are really comfortable . Predominantly I walk our dog in short boots though so can’t vouch for their longevity after hard use .

I can answer this question as I have both - DON'T ask. Dubarry are about 14 years old, Dublins are 4. I use both for dog walking, there isn't much difference between the 2.

I am very happy with my Tuffa sheepskin lined yard boots. Very easy to pull on and off. Comfy and warm. I've had them two years and they are going strong though the sheepskin lining is starting to wear away. I wear them daily and they get very muddy and wet and I don't particularly look after them. Not as smart as Dubarry, but they work for me.

My Dublins only lasted a couple of years of dog walking - have just bitten the bullet and bought some Dubarrys, but they’re currently still in the box as I’m still not sure I shouldn’t return them given the price!

Coolblur · 28/08/2023 20:28

My last pair of Dubarrys lasted 12 years of dog walking in all weathers. I just cleaned and polished them, and sprayed them with protective spray every so often.
What do you wear yours for? They're too expensive to only wear occasionally. Use them for their intended purpose, stomping about the countryside!

I wear Ariat long boots, not cheap I know but I’ve had these since 2017. I’ve paddled through puddles galore in these and shallow streams, they are fantastic. They are so very comfortable with a bounce in the step. Every now and then I give them a good old clean and polish and re proof them, I love them.

KeepingKeepingOn · 29/08/2023 06:59

@Coolblur this is the kind of incentive I need to keep my pair 😂 what did you polish and spray with? Do I need to do that before first wear?

sorry to derail @allofthelove!

Muck boots for winter, Merrils for the rest of the year. The Merrils last well two walks a day with a Lab. avoid cheap they will just fall apart if you do any distance.

I wear my dubarrys for day to day to use in the winter . I love them but I'd rather not kill them with dog walking .

Thank you for all your suggestions . I'm going to do some research . I have quire large calves aswell. Just want to have warm dry feet in the depths of winter . Wellies don't cut it as my feet freeze even with loads of socks on .

For a cheaper alternative. Decathlon low rise fleece lined wellie boots

I have massive calves! The legs of Muck boots are made from neoprene - warm and starchy. Work work outside. They're brilliant.,Apart from a bit of mud, they look new after 3 years of living in them Sept-April!

EdithStourton · 29/08/2023 09:01

In winter I go for cheap wellies with an extra pair of pure wool socks, but the grip is poor so no good if icy. I've also got a pair of Meindl walking boots - these are really tough, and withstand anything.

I had a pair of Dublins which I loved but I think my feet got wider as they stopped fitting me.

FinnRustle · 29/08/2023 09:10

I've got a pair of Bareback Quebecs which have held up reasonably well. I dubbin them once in a blue moon every so often but they're for splashing, not wading.

NosnowontheScottishhills · 29/08/2023 11:19

I have these mine our 4 years old I’ve worn them virtually everyday and walk at least 1 1/2 hours a day often 2-3 hours a day they are just wearing out now. I walk over all terrains including climbing up steep rocky hills and they give excellent ankle support. You can get them without neoprene but I suffer from cold feet. My new pair were £20 cheaper but I can’t find the website I got them from but definitely shop around. They come with a guarantee I think it’s 2 years.
