Anyone else with a greyhound or skinny dog feel you should walk round with a mattress?!

Just back from walk and stop at a nice dog friendly pub. Our greyhound loves the people, sights and smells in a pub but he is so awkward! Tries to lie down, realises the floor isn't soft enough for his liking, gets back up, stands looking awkward. Repeat.

The only time he settles properly is if I take a blanket or something soft for him. Love how the kids grow up and you don't need to take a massive bag everywhere, but now I feel like I need an equivalent bag for the dog. With maybe a blow up sofa, some nice cushions, just to make sure he's comfy! Greyhounds are lush, but they're not like other dogs. Cute spaniel just sitting chilled with their people.

My lurcher is the same 🤣

Eddielizzard · 18/08/2023 13:57

Same. Mine just stands there looking at me, with what-do-you-expect-me-to-do eyes

Roodog · 18/08/2023 13:57

They're so daft aren't they😂

I take a small roll of vet bed with me. Squishes up small and is lightweight. Still a pain to have to remember it and carry it though!

Roodog · 18/08/2023 14:21

I always feel like a bit of an OTT dog mum if I bring out a blanket! And it's another thing to remember! That John Lewis thing would be good, I just don't like standing out.

I always take out bit of nonslip vetbed from car with me as guarantees will settle & relax. I'm sure the non sighthounds also wouldn't mind a bed to lounge on at the pub but at least they tend to have plenty of padding or fur cushioning their bones.

Dobby's Coats also makes bags that convert into beds for trips out, she has lurchers so will have been well tested with boney elbows.

You've got a greyhound..... you stand out 😜

@ScattyHattie they're cute, another greyhound accessory! Never tried vet bed but might be worth it.

I've got one of these for my skinny pathetic wimps.

It's the way they look at the floor when you suggest they could lie on it...

Oh we never go 'out out' with our greys without a full bag - blankets, bowls, treats. Our preference of pubs is also based on who has carpets inside to make it easier 😅

PointyMcguire · 18/08/2023 18:46

We keep these in our car for our bony boys. Compact enough not to stand out, and just the right size when rolled out for a fidgety land shark.

My bedlington x whippet is a bag of elbows. Travel mats are compulsory!

mrsrobin · 19/08/2023 12:38

My lurcher hates hard floors too! We have various things we take out as a matter of course! Small square of vetbed, an old joules fleecy blanket and an old Joules travel mat. One lives in the car in case we are out and end up in a pub and the vetbed goes in my husband's rucksack when we go out hiking. Very strangely, she will lie down on concrete or any other hard surface outside!

Floralnomad · 19/08/2023 16:31

My patterdale x just sits on my lap , he does it at the vets as well , it’s a bit of a balancing act as he’s not that small .

TetrapanaxRex · 19/08/2023 16:36

I always take a roll up blanket out with me and I bought a rectangle of thick wadding from Hobbycraft that I put inside a pillowcase and that can also be rolled up and secured with a rubber band and makes a soft pad for one of my Whippets who is very slender.

My Sighthounds will not lie on hard surfaces and are even reluctant to lay on grass.

At home I bought a roll of artificial grass which I cut into rectangles and I move them around the garden in the sun for them to lay on as they get lovely and warm and it feels like a heated pad. Even on the hottest day they live laying on them.
